Job description

This position will be responsible for efficient execution of core FMP initiatives at all assigned locations. This includes sales, profitability, operations and safety.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Area Operations Manager will be responsible for the growth and success of the company with focus on the following requirements and assignments as deemed appropriate by Company Senior Management:

  • Effectively train General Managers and location staff on company procedures and expectations enabling each location to maximize sales and profit.
  • Review with each Location Manager their P & L and ensure compliance with expenditure requirements that achieve company financial goals. Review any items that are not within budget or are significantly higher than the previous year.
  • Handles employee relation issues as required.
  • Effectively coach and mentor the General Managers.
  • Responsible for working with corporate to ensure that set up, training, and implementation of all operations projects are completed as scheduled.
  • Responsible to review all accidents and incidents involving employees and ensure corrective action is taken.
  • Audit all courier and temporary employment invoices that fall outside the budget for each location.
  • Review the weekly open COD report and request the General Manager to investigate and respond with an explanation of their status.
  • Review each location’s inventory adjustment file to ensure the General Manager or authorized personnel are the only ones correcting inventory. Ensure cycle counts are being completed.
  • Inspect the condition of the delivery vehicles and ensure that the vehicles are safe and maintained within company standards.
  • Review the weekly overtime report to ensure the General Manager is scheduling and managing employee’s hours to avoid overtime whenever possible. Employees receiving structured overtime need to be reported to the VP Controller along with an explanation on why it is required.
  • Evaluate the locations safety and security checklist. Report any issues to corporate.
  • Responsible for visiting some accounts in person or contact them by phone on a regular basis.
  • Review dock to post, open transfer and open bin reports for each location and work closely with the General Manager to stay within company standards. Approval must be given for any exception to the rule.
  • Inspect the returns department to ensure there are no new parts, cores or defective parts older than thirty days. Approval must be given for any exception to the rule.
  • Responsible for attending quarterly safety meeting at each location and review the safety meeting minutes of each location to ensure the meetings are performed and exceptions are handled immediately.
  • Responsible for attending location meetings for each location twice a year and ensure that the meetings are being conducted in a productive manner.
  • Audit all aspects of the location to ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and checklists.
  • Monitor routes operated by their locations for a positive customer experience and cost effectiveness. The metrics from the utilization of the Elite Extra GPS, in addition to existing data warehouse information, to help improve profitability and the overall customer experience.
  • Review open transfers to and from all of their locations to ensure the timely processing of inbound and outbound shipments.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Highly developed communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Ability to teach, coach, and train team members to drive change and execute process improvements.
  • Knowledge of Automotive Industry, Operations, and Safety processes, programs, and procedures.
  • Ability to organize and manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to communicate in all forums compellingly.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to lead, manage, direct and coordinate the efforts of others either directly or indirectly.
  • A demonstrated ability to lead people and get results through others.
  • A sincere interest in the employees you manage – with the desire to assist them in their success via training, meaningful assignments and through regular communication.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is performed in a company office building and in the field. Lifting requirements of up to 75 pounds on an occasional basis may be required. Wrist and finger manipulation due to computer work, calculating, compiling and filing. Equipment used may include but is not limited to computer, calculator, telephone, copy and fax machines.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or equivalent field
    AND
  • 10 + years of progressively responsible experience
    OR
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE BEYOND MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Multi site experience (6-12 locations)
  • Supervisory experience
  • 5 years in the auto parts distribution business
