Job Summary & Key Responsibilities 

We are seeking an experienced Architectural Specification Writer to join our team and play a key role in producing and securing high-quality specifications for our paint products. This position requires a proactive and detail-oriented individual who can work both independently and collaboratively to support project teams and ensure precision in all documentation. The Architectural Specification Writer will contribute to the development and maintenance of paint specifications for clients and play an integral role in business growth. The territory covers San Francisco, California. The ideal candidate will reside within 30 miles of Oakland, California.

Market Strategy, Development and Execution  

  • Develop and execute a strategic account plan to drive growth within the architectural segment in partnership and under the direction of the Area Sales Manager  
  • Identify key opportunities to maximize specification growth and optimize accounts for long-term success 
  • Actively prospect and engage architects, consultants, and specifiers to ensure Benjamin Moore is specified in upcoming projects 
  • Qualify and manage leads to secure specifications, particularly for commercial projects 

Act as the Go-to Authority and Technical Expert 

  • Serve as the technical expert on Benjamin Moore's product portfolio, staying informed on technological advancements, sustainability practices, and regulatory guidelines 
  • Conduct presentations, continued education courses, and meetings to educate architects and specifiers on the benefits of specifying Benjamin Moore products 
  • Provide white-glove service in writing, reviewing, and ensuring the accuracy of paint specifications 
  • Assist decision-makers in selecting the most efficient and effective products for each project 
  • Use the Benjamin Moore Spec Writer tool to create specifications and educate clients on its self-service capabilities 
  • Collaborate with architects, consultants, and project managers to ensure design intent is accurately reflected in technical documentation and aligned with the project goals 
  • Support retailer's efforts in updating specifications through painters or contractors 

Project Management 

  • Provide expert guidance and support throughout the project lifecycle, acting as an extension of clients' teams 
  • Track project opportunities and specifications, ensuring effective follow-up with clients and alignment between the Territory Representative and painters 
  • Partner with Territory Representatives during the construction phase to ensure accurate specifications, evaluate submittals, and address RFIs 
  • Conduct job site visits with Territory Representatives to assess project needs and ensure the proper implementation of specifications 

Strategic Market Intelligence and Business Acumen  

  • Analyze market reports and stay informed about industry trends, competitive analysis, and market developments to capitalize on new opportunities 
  • Leverage marketing tools and resources in collaboration with the A&D Marketing Manager to create custom materials as needed 
  • Optimize time in both desk and field activities, prioritizing specification writing and client engagement to increase market share 
  • Maintain direct feedback on relevant and/or critical matters with the A&D HQ team  
  • Submit accurate reports and documentation into CRM on a weekly basis 

Requirements 

  • Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) or equivalent experience 
  • 5+ years' of experience working directly with architectural and design communities 
  • Ability to understand and communicate to the A&D communities our Benjamin Moore brand value proposition 
  • Strong project management and firm understanding of the project lifecycle  
  • Demonstrated experience in writing and self-souring specifications and finish schedules while managing the project lifecycle through to install  
  • Proficiency in relevant software programs including Microsoft Office and CRM systems  
  • Understanding of specification tools and platforms for architecture professionals  
  • Exceptional interpersonal, communication, listening, and public speaking skills 
  • Strong motivational abilities with the capacity to inspire and guide others 
  • Proven time management skills and ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively 
  • Effective decision-making, analytical, and problem-solving skills 
  • Excellent team collaboration skills for working effectively with colleagues and clients 
  • Valid driver's license and a clean driving record are required 
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends as needed 
  • Must be able to travel domestically overnight occasionally to attend meetings, conferences, and trade shows 
  • Must reside in the desired geography or be willing to relocate

The salary range listed herein refers to the amount the Company is willing to pay at the time of posting. The actual salary offer will be carefully considered based on a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, job location, and other relevant factors.
