This position plays a critical role in driving revenue growth by ensuring our products are included in the design and specification phases of commercial construction projects.
Is This a Sales Role?
Yes. This position is best described as a Specification Sales / Business Development role within the commercial building products industry.
While the position may not be responsible for directly closing sales transactions, it is responsible for influencing the specification process, creating demand, building relationships with architects and designers, and driving revenue growth by ensuring products are designed into projects before they reach the bid stage.
Why This Is Considered a Sales Role
The primary objective of this role is to:
Build relationships with architects, designers, engineers, and specifiers.
Create demand for Stylecraft, Chase, Eliason, and HMF Express products.

Influence product selection during the design phase.
Secure product specifications that ultimately drive sales opportunities.
Partner with Territory Managers and distributor partners to maintain specifications through the bidding process.
Support revenue growth through specification activity and market development.
Develop new relationships and expand existing relationships within the A&D community.
Travel throughout assigned territories to meet customers and industry stakeholders.
How It Differs from Traditional Sales Roles
Unlike a traditional Territory Sales Representative or Account Executive role, this position:
Does not primarily focus on quoting and closing orders.
Works with influencers and decision-makers rather than end purchasers.
Has a longer sales cycle, often lasting months or years as projects move through design, specification, bid, and construction phases.
Focuses on creating opportunities and specifications that later convert into sales through distributors and sales teams.
Common Titles for Similar Roles

Manage product substitution requests and approval processes while partnering with Territory Managers and distributor partners to ensure specifications are maintained through the bid process.
Provide technical expertise regarding product selection, applications, performance requirements, and code compliance.

Gather customer feedback and market intelligence to support product development and strategic initiatives.
Stay current on industry trends, design standards, building codes, and competitive offerings.
Participate in trade shows, networking events, and industry associations such as AIA and CSI.
Collaborate with technical writing and marketing resources to develop presentations, white papers, and educational content targeted by industry vertical.
