Amex Ventures is seeking a highly motivated individual to be an integral part of the Ventures Portfolio Management group by supporting the team's operations, including portfolio reporting, managing transaction related processes and deriving insights from our investment activity.

The below represents the expected salary range for this job requisition. Ultimately, in determining your pay, we'll consider your location, experience, and other job-related factors.
  • The role is a multi-faceted one and requires both analytical and interpersonal skill sets
  • ~3-4 years previous experience must include financial or operational background (familiarity with financial statements)
  • Comfortable working with large data sets & synthesizing insights
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Financial, analytical and valuation skills 
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with internal and external stakeholders and to collaborate with others to drive results
  • Interest in the startup ecosystem
  • Knowledge of Cobalt PM Software a plus
  • Bachelor's degree required

In this exciting opportunity, the Portfolio Manager will work closely with the broader Ventures Team, and various teams across American Express to drive strategic portfolio management and investment insights. The Manager will play a key role in evaluating portfolio company performance, shaping portfolio construction, and supporting projects that help inform decision-making. The Manager will also be responsible for enhanced portfolio analytics and ensuring the effective execution of portfolio management and reporting requirements. 

  • Responsible for quarterly portfolio reporting, including materials for broader Ventures team and senior management 
  • Lead portfolio review and valuation processes (ex. Impairment, Mark-to-Market)
  • Assisting on controllership, regulatory and compliance deliverables
  • Drive portfolio construction and analytics, including enhancement of portfolio models and scenario analysis
  • Conduct deep-dive analysis of portfolio company performance, market trends, and key value drivers to inform strategic decisions 
  • Incorporate external data and perspectives into portfolio insights and recommendations
  • Leverage technology to improve efficiency and scalability of portfolio management processes 
  • Maintain and evolve portfolio data systems and ensure data integrity across portfolio management tools 
  • Track portfolio performance against benchmarks, objectives and success metrics, providing actionable insights to stakeholders 
  • Mentor junior team members and provide guidance on analysis, modeling and storytelling 
  • Support ad-hoc cross-functional projects
