Job description

Membership Portfolio Services, within our US Consumer Services Business, is responsible for developing and scaling several growing businesses that are strategically important to American Express. We are developing unique and differentiated ways to strengthen the Membership Model by connecting Card Members with Merchants that create opportunities to help drive our growth over the mid-to-long term.

How will you make an impact in this role?

The role will report to the Director, Product Line Strategy & Partnerships and serve as the primary relationship owner for Amex Offers' strategic third-party partnerships, including Rakuten, Cardlytics, and the Smart Offers portfolio. This leader will maximize the value of existing partnerships through strong relationship management, commercial execution, operational excellence, and cross-functional leadership while supporting evaluation of future partnership opportunities.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in partnerships, strategic account management, relationship management, or business development, preferably within digital marketing, loyalty, media, or platform ecosystems
  • Proven success managing strategic external partnerships, building executive relationships, and influencing cross-functional stakeholders to resolve complex issues and deliver commercial outcomes
  • Demonstrated experience leading complex contract negotiations, renewals, and commercial structuring discussions
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple partner relationships, balance competing priorities, and drive execution in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to navigate ambiguity, adapt quickly, and make sound decisions in a dynamic environment
  • Strong quantitative skills that enable the analysis of KPIs and generation of actionable recommendations with measurable value
  • Strong presentation and storytelling skills with the ability to communicate effectively to senior leaders and external partners
  • Previous people leadership or coaching experience
  • Curiosity and a customer-first mindset, with an interest in building long-term strategic partnerships that deliver value for merchants, Card Members, and American Express
  • Experience within loyalty, digital advertising, retail media, affiliate marketing, or card-linked offers ecosystems

Partnerships:

  • Develop and execute partnership plans that maximize the performance and strategic value of existing partnerships while aligning to Amex Offers business priorities
  • Serve as the cross-functional lead across Sales, Analytics, Product, Engineering, Finance, Marketing Operations, and Legal to drive successful partnership execution and resolve operational issues
  • Own key third-party content partnerships in the US (Cardlytics and Rakuten)
    • Own day-to-day relationship management, serving as the primary point of contact for partner leadership and internal stakeholders
    • Identify opportunities to improve partner performance, operational efficiency, and commercial outcomes
    • Lead contract renewals, commercial commitments, TLM approvals, and ongoing governance activities
  • Own the Smart Offers Program, managing six strategic partnerships within the portfolio
    • Own day-to-day relationship management, serving as the primary point of contact for partner leadership and internal stakeholders
    • Optimize portfolio performance by improving partner engagement, commercial outcomes, and operational execution while identifying opportunities for measured program expansion
    • Lead contract renewals, commercial commitments, TLM approvals, and ongoing governance activities
  • Define, monitor, and communicate KPIs to measure partner health, commercial performance, operational effectiveness, and revenue contribution
  • Partner with finance teams on invoicing, reconciliation, and commercial tracking processes.
  • Partner closely with Product and Engineering teams to identify and advocate for capabilities and enhancements that improve partner experience, operational efficiency, and Card Member value
  • Identify opportunities to deepen existing partner relationships through expanded capabilities, new use cases, and commercial optimization
  • Support global partnership opportunities and scalability where applicable

Partnership Strategy & Portfolio Development

  • Monitor the competitive landscape and emerging partnership models to inform future partnership strategy
  • Support evaluation of new partnership opportunities aligned with Amex Offers strategic priorities
  • Support onboarding and integration planning for new strategic partnerships when applicable
  • Manage internal reviews and required approvals for external partnerships
