Our Team: Tech Strategy

The Tech Strategy team is an internal consulting team within the Technology organization. We focus on three types of projects:

1. Strategy/Management Consulting - Our team plays a critical role to provide strategic support for the CIO and Technology Leadership Team. As a team with a strong consulting mindset, leadership and executives call on us to help with a variety of special, high-visibility projects such as: developing mid to long term Technology Strategy for Amex, investment planning, creating the groundwork for Technology's internal modernization efforts, Investor Day content and presentation etc.

2. Platform Strategy - Partnering closely with Business, Product, Architecture, and Engineering teams across the enterprise, our team ensures Amex will meet our customer needs over the next 3-5 years in this continually evolving FinTech landscape by creating cohesive platform strategies and roadmaps.  This includes forming recommendations to invest in strategic and emerging capabilities (including build vs. buy analysis), enhance / mature existing capabilities, and rationalize redundant capabilities across all platforms to drive business model evolution, growth, and innovation.

3. Mergers & Acquisition Advisory - Our team also works with the Amex Ventures, Corporate Development and Business Development teams to assess the capability landscape and maturity of potential acquisitions.

The below represents the expected salary range for this job requisition. Ultimately, in determining your pay, we'll consider your location, experience, and other job-related factors.

Qualifications

  • 10-15 years of professional experience, including prior management consulting experience delivering projects within one or more Technology strategic disciplines (i.e. CIO Advisory, Digital Transformation, Tech Value Creation, Innovative Business/Op Model, Emerging/Future Tech, Portfolio Rationalization, Capability Model/Blueprint, Tech M&A, etc.)

  • Experience leading, developing, and mentoring high performing teams with ability to attract, recruit, train, and retain quality talent working in a technology/management consulting setting.

  • Skilled in data analysis, data driven decision making, relationship building, customer-centric design, customer journey mapping and external benchmarking.

  • Familiarity with one or more core Technology functions in a strategic capacity (i.e. Infrastructure and Cloud Strategy, Platform/ Product Strategy, Enterprise/Business Architecture, Resiliency/Cyber Security Strategy etc.)  

  • Proficient in developing excellent quality presentations and deliverables for an executive audience.

  • Track record of influencing change within a matrixed organization (working across levels and job functions).

  • Knowledge of payments, commerce, FinTech innovation and disruptive technologies and trends

  • Solid business acumen and problem-solving ability with high capacity for strategic/end-to-end thinking

  • High intellectual curiosity, creativity, complex problem solving and strategic and innovative thought leadership.

  • Excellent facilitation and collaboration skills, with the ability to influence and gain alignment at all levels of an organization, including senior leadership.

  • Ability to operate in ambiguity, white space, and evolving priorities.

  • Loves working in an entrepreneurial culture that is lean, fast paced, and dynamic.

Preferred Qualifications

  • MBA or equivalent

  • Previous Big 4 management consulting experience

  • Familiarity with Agile Delivery/Methodologies and Lean Portfolio Management

  • Prior exposure to FinTech and emerging tech landscape in payment/banking industry
