Mission
The mission of the Beta Academy SPED Coordinator is to serve as the campus leader for Special Education services, compliance, and scholar support systems while ensuring scholars with disabilities receive rigorous instruction, individualized support, and equitable access to academic success. The SPED Coordinator cultivates a culture of joyful rigor, inclusion, accountability, and excellence while partnering with campus leadership, teachers, and families to develop scholars who can contribute on a community, national, and international level.

Job ResponsibilitiesCampus Leadership & Accountability
  • Serves as the campus point person for Special Education services, compliance, and scholar support systems.
  • Participates in campus leadership meetings, scholar success meetings, intervention meetings, and instructional planning systems.
  • Partners with the Principal, Dean of Academics, Dean of Scholars, teachers, and support staff to ensure scholar success.
  • Maintains visibility throughout the school day across classrooms, intervention spaces, parent meetings, and campus events.
  • Serves as an administrator during parent nights, ARDs, family engagement events, and scholar support meetings.
  • Coordinates and supports the scheduling, administration, and implementation of district and state assessment programs, including NWEA MAP, Accelerated Reader (AR), STAAR, TELPAS, and other required assessments, ensuring testing accommodations and compliance requirements are implemented with fidelity.
  • Provide lunch supervision as assigned.
  • Supports schoolwide systems, culture initiatives, testing operations, transitions, and scholar supervision as needed.
  • Reinforces a campus culture of joyful rigor, high expectations, urgency, professionalism, and accountability.
Instructional Leadership & Scholar Support
  • Coaches teachers and aides in implementing accommodations, modifications, inclusion strategies, and behavior supports.
  • Conducts classroom walkthroughs and provides actionable feedback to SPED teachers and instructional aides.
  • Monitors scholar achievement, intervention effectiveness, behavior data, and IEP goal progress.
  • Participates in scholar success meetings and collaborates with instructional leaders to close achievement gaps for scholars receiving Special Education services.
  • Ensures accommodations are implemented consistently during classroom instruction, district testing, and state testing.
  • Provides compensatory services, Extended School Year (ESY), and homebound services.
  • Supports campus intervention systems and collaborates with RTI/MTSS teams regarding referrals and scholar support plans.
  • Assists with behavior support systems and crisis response as needed.
  • Provide small-group tutorials to approximately 6 scholars, ensuring they achieve grade-level academic goals as assigned.
  • (K-12) Supervise that scholars participate in one outdoor lesson per week.
  • (K-2) Supervise the maintenance of a garden/planters box as an outdoor laboratory to help foster life skills, responsibility, problem solving, and critical thinking. Provide dynamic environments in which to observe, classify, infer, measure, predict, and organize.
  • (3-8) Supervise that scholars participate in at least 1 hands-on/real world learning project per year, which will be completed during class time rather than at home.
  • (9-12) Attend and support graduation, including setup & teardown (1 of 15 parent nights).

Compliance & Program Management
  • Oversees all Special Education compliance systems, timelines, and documentation.
  • Ensures ARDs, FIEs, evaluations, reevaluations, and audit files remain compliant, accurate, and organized.
  • Conducts monthly audits of IEPs, service logs, progress reports, accommodations, and scholar records.
  • Ensures procedural safeguards and Child Find requirements are implemented with fidelity.
  • Maintains accurate records in SuccessEd, Skyward, and other district systems.
  • Coordinates related services, evaluations, scheduling, and service delivery for Special Education scholars.
  • Collaborates with the 504 Coordinator, Dyslexia staff, ESL staff, and campus leadership regarding scholar support services.
  • Ensures all required progress reports and parent documentation are completed and distributed on time.

Staff Leadership & Development
  • Supervises, develops, and evaluates SPED teachers, instructional aides, and support staff.
  • Leads SPED team meetings, professional development sessions, and compliance trainings.
  • Holds staff accountable for instructional quality, professionalism, scholar support, and compliance expectations.
  • Supports onboarding, mentorship, coaching, and growth of Special Education staff members.
  • Assists teachers and aides with classroom management, organization, and implementation of scholar supports.

Family & Community Engagement
  • Builds strong partnerships with families through proactive communication and problem-solving.
  • Oversees and supports Special Education teachers in conducting a minimum of two parent conferences annually in accordance with Texas Education Code ยง 28.022(a)(1), ensuring meaningful communication regarding scholar progress, services, and supports.
  • Supports teachers and administrators during difficult parent meetings and conflict resolution conversations.
  • Ensures parents understand scholar progress, accommodations, intervention plans, and services.
  • Responds promptly and professionally to parent concerns and questions.
  • Maintains positive working relationships with families, community partners, and stakeholders.

  • Uses professional communication and appropriate conduct on and off campus, including social media platforms.

  • Checks email regularly and responds to communication in a timely manner.

Other Duties/Responsibilities
  • Participate willingly in all dance/stomp productions throughout the academic school year.
  • Additional duties may be assigned by the Principal and/or EDSP.
  • This is a 100% onsite role

QualificationsRequired
  • Valid Texas Special Education Certification
  • Minimum of five years of Special Education teaching experience
  • Strong knowledge of IDEA, TEA compliance requirements, ARD processes, and Special Education law
Preferred
  • Master's Degree in Education, Educational Leadership, Special Education, or related field
  • Experience supervising or coaching staff
  • Experience leading campus compliance systems and instructional support programs

Compensation
Starting at $70,000
