Overall Features
The work involves the performance of various routine library clerical duties using an automated circulation system as assigned in the operation of the library. Prior knowledge of library procedures is preferred; on the job training is provided. Work involves data entry and retrieval from a specialized library system database, requiring skill and accuracy in the use of automated equipment. Work is performed under supervision of Assistant Principal. May oversee, Book Fair, volunteers and other assigned duties. Does related work as required.
Specific Responsibilities
• Performs routine searches of and updates to computer records.
• Issues borrowers cards according to library procedures.
• Performs routine circulation, reserve and overdue functions.
• Inspects returned materials for damage.
• Provides information to staff, students and parents on circulation rules, policies, and procedures
• Makes and checks routine arithmetic computations.
• Operates office machinery such as photocopiers, fax machines, and computers.
• Arranges or files materials according to library filing rules.
• Answers the telephone and takes messages.
• Calls patrons to deliver messages or information on library materials.
• Maintains confidentiality of library user records.
• Attends staff meetings and contributes to work-related discussions.
• Keeps work areas neat and clean.
• May transport books and/or library materials from one location to another within a building.
• May be assigned responsibilities related to the collection, and transmission.
• May be assigned responsibilities related to the opening and closing of the library facility.

Qualifications
Library Aide/ must have one of the following:
Working knowledge of office terminology, procedures and equipment as applied to library clerical work. Working knowledge of business arithmetic. Working knowledge of library filing and shelving rules. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to operate an alphanumeric keyboard such a terminal, or personal computer accurately. Tact and courtesy in dealing with staff, students and parents.
° A high school diploma or equivalent and a passing score on an exam that tests the ability to assist in the teaching of math, reading, and writing;
° Preferred possession of an A.A. degree or two years of college coursework that would indicate possession of the skills and abilities for the job.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Moderate work involving lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling of books, cartons or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
