What Is a Wedding Consultant and How to Become One

What Is a Wedding Consultant?

A wedding consultant works to help the bride and groom plan certain aspects of their wedding. In this career, your duties include advising the couple about wedding logistics, venue choice, and other details that are a part of the marriage ceremony and reception party. Depending on the needs of your client, you may also cover aspects such as the design and coordination of dresses and organization of the gift registry. You may need to coordinate a venue for other wedding-related events such as the groom’s dinner. Your responsibilities should include considering the couple’s budget as you help them plan.

How to Become a Wedding Consultant

The qualifications that you need to become a wedding consultant revolve around job experience. A high school diploma is sufficient for some entry-level positions as a wedding planner assistant. Some schools offer post-secondary diplomas in wedding planning or event planning. You can pursue such a degree if entry-level jobs are not available in your area. Keep in mind that a wedding planner oversees wedding planning, while a consultant works together with the bride and groom to plan the event. This aspect of wedding consulting means that you need strong communication skills.
