Job description

  • SUMMARY / OBJECTIVE

Create new innovative formulas based on benchmark product or brief, enhance existing formulas and procedures, and convert customer supplied formulas to meet company's format and processing capabilities


  • ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

To perform this position successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily.   • Research and develop innovative cosmetic products based on current industry trends, benchmark products, customer brief or other product concepts.
  • Reverse-engineer current marketed products.
  • Create formulas for new products submissions.
  • Assist in testing and approval of raw materials, finished and in-process, adjustments & line samples.
  • Assist in continually interfacing and communicating with other departments such as QC Laboratory, Quality Assurance, Customer Service, Production and other department personnel as needed to ensure production of top-quality finished goods.
  • Conduct process engineering and scaling up of formulas
  • Enhance and/or modify existing formulas and procedures to fit the needs of the company
  • Ensure the integrity and quality of customer's formulations
  • Assist in troubleshooting production problems.
  • Learn the newest technologies and ingredients offered in the field by meeting with vendors and attending seminars
  • Monitor first 3 production batches
  • May meet with customers at the discretion of the R&D Manager and Senior Chemist
  • Research and understand the function of each ingredient within a formula
  • Promote compliance with Bright Innovation Laboratories policies, procedures, quality standards and current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) as well as safety and environmental regulations. Participate, as required, in safety and GMP training sessions, and other company training sessions

  • Flexibility with schedule including shift work

  • POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
    • This is a full-time position. The base days and hours are Monday through Friday, eight (8) hours per shift depending on shift assigned.
    • Overtime is voluntary. However, having flexibility to working ones "fair share" of overtime as business needs may warrant also spread the overtime burden across the entire department. All overtime must be pre-approved by the supervisor or department leader.
    • Overtime notice will be communicated as far in advance as feasible, however, based on the nature of the work overtime notice may be less than one work day at times.

  • TRAVEL
    • No travel is expected for this position.

  • REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
    • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a degree in Chemistry or related science.
    • Must have a minimum of 3 years laboratory experience.

  • PREFERRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE LANGUAGE SKILLS
    • A minimum of 3 years Product development (Innovation) experience is preferred.

  • ADDITIONAL ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS
    • English language and knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.

  • WORK AUTHORIZATION
    • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. as a pre-condition of employment.
