Job description

Position Overview
The Research & Development Manager leads a team of engineers, scientists, and specialists in developing innovative label solutions that meet customer and business needs.
Responsibilities
  • Leading the Research & Development team, consisting of Product Development Engineers/Scientists and R&D Specialists, including setting goals and providing performance feedback.
  • Providing product design and troubleshooting methodology, technical support, coaching, and training to team members and associates.
  • Serving as a leader of the new product development process focused on execution and risk mitigation. Managing a pipeline of projects aimed at delivering improved performance, quality, and economics. Leading select high-impact development projects.
  • Achieving cross-department alignment of priorities and managing R&D resource capacity consistent with priorities.
  • Partnering with Sales & Marketing to define gaps in GBP's product portfolio, identifying new growth opportunities, and influencing product strategies.
  • Working directly with customers to understand and define their wants, needs, and associated value of new technologies.
  • Partnering with Manufacturing, Procurement, and Process Engineering teams on product developments, process developments, and process improvements with the goal of creating growth-enabling new products and optimizing profit margins.
  • Staying abreast of new technologies and evolving trends in the PSA industry through engagement with suppliers, customers, and industry events.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Science field
  • 5 years research & development experience in pressure-sensitive label materials, label manufacturing or comparable manufacturing industry, plus 5 years of team leadership experience.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, leadership, development, and conflict resolution skills. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across all departments and with all levels of the organization.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Working knowledge of statistical methods. Six Sigma and Lean training are a plus.
  • Proven project management and critical thinking skills.
  • Travel, 20% or less, domestic and/or international.
