Job description

Buddy Up for Life (BUFL) is a non-profit organization that exists to serve, enable and empower individuals with Down syndrome by providing industry leading Athletic and Life Skills programs designed to promote Health & Wellness, Friendship, and Independence. What began in Columbus as a mother's mission to create inclusive opportunities for her son has grown into a nationwide movement transforming lives with 45+ program chapters across 14 states. From tennis and pickleball to cooking and communication, our Athletes and Students are paired with Buddy volunteers, creating a supportive environment where confidence grows, barriers are broken, and societal norms are redefined.

BUFL provides structured growth opportunities, expert-led curricula, and individualized support designed specifically for people with Down syndrome. Each program is created around three Pillars of Impact that enrich the lives of every participant; Health & Wellness, Friendship, and Independence.

BUFL seeks an Education Curriculum Manager to oversee the design and development of Life Skills programs to implement industry best practices, enable consistent delivery and, prepare curricula for publication and licensing. Additionally, plan, design, and revise instructional materials and assessments to ensure they meet specific learning objectives and the needs of diverse learners in BUFL's Life Skills programs which includes Communication for Life, Cooking for Life, Finance for Life, Technology for Life, Safety for Life, Communities for Life and Core Concepts. The Education Curriculum Manager reports directly to the Education Program Director.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design comprehensive course frameworks, lesson plans, and learning activities that align with the mission of Buddy Up For Life, stakeholder feedback, and industry best practices/trends of existing Life skills curriculum
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts (SMEs), instructors, and administrators to ensure content accuracy and practical relevance
  • Develop, publish, and license educational resources such as textbooks, digital tutorials, videos, quizzes, and instructor guides to be used internally and externally
  • Create formative, summative and diagnostic assessments to measure Student progress and analyze data to refine curriculum effectiveness
  • Collaborate with the Education Director on the facilitation of program delivery training to instructors at regular intervals
  • Complete ongoing research of education / adaptive programming / special education industry trends; present findings to Education Director and BUFL Executive Director on a regular basis

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's degree in education or instructional design required, Master's degree (Curriculum Design) preferred
  • 3-6 years classroom teaching experience and experience in curriculum development
  • Proficient in E-Learning authoring tools (such as Articulate Storyline, Adobe Captive), learning management systems, multimedia software, and Google Workspace
  • Strong analytical thinking, exceptional written and verbal communication, project management, and a deep understanding of adult learning principles or pedagogy
  • Knowledge of (or willingness to learn) the curriculum publication process
  • Interest in working with individuals with Down syndrome
  • Ability to communicate effectively, written and verbally, to differentiate stakeholder groups including individuals with Down syndrome, parents, instructors, community partners, etc.
  • Ability and willingness to undergo and pass a criminal background check
  • Willingness to perform other duties as assigned
