Job description

The Grandview Heights Public Library is seeking interested and qualified residents to be considered for future openings on the Library’s Board of Trustees. This is a volunteer role, with members appointed to four-year terms.

ROLE OF THE LIBRARY BOARD OF TRUSTEES
The Library Board of Trustees is responsible for the governance and stewardship of the Grandview Heights Public Library. In accordance with Ohio law, the Board establishes policy, provides fiscal oversight, and guides the long-term strategic direction of the Library.
Trustees work in partnership with the Library Director to uphold the Library’s mission, ensure accountability in the use of public funds, and support services that meet the needs of the Grandview Heights City School District community.
The Board’s key responsibilities include:
  • Establishing policies that guide all aspects of library operations;
  • Overseeing financial operations, including adopting the annual budget, approving expenditures, and reviewing financial reports;
  • Planning and evaluating library services;
  • Acquiring and maintaining library property and assets;
  • Appointing, overseeing, and supporting the Library Director and Fiscal Officer;
  • Advocating for the Library within the community and in government; and
  • Staying informed on issues affecting public libraries.
The Library operates under the administrative leadership of the Director and Fiscal Officer, both appointed by the Board. These administrators implement Board policies and manage day-to-day operations to ensure the needs of taxpayers, patrons, employees, and oversight bodies are effectively met.
