Job description

Job Description Summary:
This position is an intermediate level that works with multiple computer systems and/or performs specimen processing duties including accessioning, determining specimen viability, identifying and resolving labeling/identification discrepancies and contacting physicians regarding issues with patients/orders, patient registration, proper patient billing including the use of ICD-9 codes and pertinent knowledge of commercial and government payers. Position handles blood, tissue, fecal matter, sputum, urine, spinal fluid and other body fluids. Specimens may be contaminated with infectious diseases including HIV and other blood borne pathogens.
Responsibilities And Duties:
1. 60%
Depending on site, various duties include medical necessity, hospital order entry, registration, clarify orders and CPTs, processing specimens, draw blood, liaison to clinical staff. 2.
15%
: Customer service to clinicians and clients. Must be comfortable and professional on the telephone, able to communicate with physician office staff and clinical staff, and laboratory associates. Must be able to communicate with patients and their families, and use service recovery where necessary. 3.
15%
: Adherence to regulatory compliance as defined by CAP, OSHA, JCAHO, CMS, ODH and Laboratory policies and procedures. 4. 5%
: Training students. Training new employees 5. 5%
: Maintaining competencies, mandatory educational requirements AC e . Perform miscellaneous tasks as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
High School or GED (Required)
Additional Job Description:
Experience in laboratory or hospital setting. superior customer services skills, medical terminology, basic anatomy, advanced computer skills, ICD-9 coding, specimen handling. May require knowledge of phlebotomy. Critical thinking skills. Independent and self-directing. 1 year + phlebotomy Experience . 1-2 years of practical Experience in a reference lab, hospital lab, or physician office.
