Job Title: Nursing Director

Location: Michigan

Job Description:
Rushton Recovery is seeking a qualified Nursing Director for our behavioral health facility specializing in drug and alcohol treatment. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in nursing administration, with a focus on substance abuse, and demonstrate exceptional leadership and communication skills.

Minimum Requirements:
Successful completion of a drug screen and background check.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a nursing executive director role.
  • At least 3 years of nursing experience, preferably in a psychiatric care facility specializing in drug and alcohol treatment.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, with the ability to convey information clearly and consistently.
  • Exceptional judgment, crisis management, client service, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to lead a team of up to 10 nurses effectively.
  • Licensed with the state of Michigan Board of Nursing.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule and fill in when needed.
  • Excellent bedside manner and communication skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of Electronic Medical Records (EMRs).
  • Working knowledge of healthcare laws and regulations, including The Joint Commission standards.
  • Up-to-date CPR certification is preferred. Rushton Recovery LLC will provide training for staff who are not CPR certified.
  • TB risk assessment upon hire, with additional testing as required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Collaborative Work: Ability to collaborate effectively with the Medical Director and Executive Director to uphold program excellence by fostering a cohesive interdisciplinary team.
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills to facilitate effective communication within the team, with patients, and with other stakeholders.
  • Case Management: Proficiency in case management, including organizing and coordinating patient care plans, ensuring adherence to treatment protocols, and facilitating communication between different healthcare professionals.
  • Time Management: Strong time management skills to efficiently handle multiple tasks and prioritize responsibilities within established time frames.
  • Crisis Intervention: Ability to effectively intervene in crisis situations, demonstrating sound judgment and maintaining composure under pressure.
  • Clinical Knowledge: Comprehensive understanding of chemical dependency, psychological disorders, detoxification protocols, and related care practices.
  • Documentation: Skill in summarizing pertinent clinical information through written correspondence and maintaining accurate records documentation in accordance with facility policies and regulatory standards.
  • Task Delegation: Capability to address, prioritize, and delegate multiple task demands effectively, ensuring efficient workflow and optimal patient care delivery.
  • Conflict Management: Demonstrated ability to maintain self-control in volatile or hostile situations, including verbal or physical confrontations, by employing conflict resolution strategies and de-escalation techniques.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Supervision and Training:
  • Provide direct supervision to all Nursing Staff.
  • Orientate and train new hires according to policies and procedure
  • Monitor nursing staff performance, initiate disciplinary action, additional training, or termination if necessary.
  • Conduct monthly staff training sessions, documenting topics covered.
2. Scheduling and Staffing:
  • Schedule nursing staff to meet resident needs and comply with regulatory requirements.
  • Approve time-off requests and arrange coverage as needed.
  • Ensure staffing levels remain within budgetary constraints.
3. Policy and Procedure Management:
  • Coordinate with the leadership team on proposed policy and procedure amendments.
4. Supplies Management:
  • Ensure adequate supplies in the nursing office and replenish as needed, including over-the-counter medications.
5. Documentation Oversight:
  • Monitor completion of required documentation, including staff scheduling, progress notes, incident reports, medication documentation, controlled substance counts, time sheets, temperature logs, and bed checks.
  • Ensure accuracy and appropriate grammar, spelling, and terminology in documentation.
6. Safety and Environment:
  • Maintain a safe and healthy environment promoting independence and self-determination.
  • Schedule and conduct emergency drills, providing documentation to the Chief Executive Officer.
7. Client Care:
  • Affirm and protect clients' rights.
  • Assess clients' conditions, drug intoxication and withdrawal, medication side effects, and response to care.
  • Establish rapport with clients, families, and caregivers.
  • Identify clients' honesty and motivation levels.
  • Assess for abuse, neglect, and detoxification protocol knowledge.
  • Provide safe and effective care in accordance with physicians' orders.
  • Administer medications, ensuring proper storage and safety.
  • Provide care for clients at risk of self-harm or harm to others.
  • Interact appropriately with clients.
  • Communicate with outside physicians and stakeholders.
  • Document thoroughly and accurately in client charts.
8. Reporting:
  • Report suspected or known abuse/neglect incidents to the Chief Executive Officer.
  • Report sentinel events to appropriate staff.
  • Manage medication count, destruction, and management.
  • Collect assessments as required.
  • Schedule outside medical appointments.
  • Communicate with the Medical Director and Executive Director.
  • Conduct health assessments and questionnaires.
  • Complete nurse progress notes and daily shift reports.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
