Title: Director of Mechanical Preconstruction

Overview: We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Director of Preconstruction to join our team in Honolulu, Hawaii. This full-time position is ideal for a candidate who has a passion for the HVAC and plumbing industry and a strong background in commercial mechanical construction. The primary role involves overseeing the preconstruction phase, managing the Estimating Department, and aligning project opportunities with strategic business objectives. Responsibilities:
- Project Opportunity Assessment: Evaluate potential projects, develop conceptual and budget estimates, and identify strategic advantages for Design Build (DB), Design Assist (DA), Value Engineering (VE), and other special projects.
- Team Leadership: Lead, recruit, and develop the Estimating Department, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality estimates and adherence to client deadlines.
- Customer Relationship Management: Establish and maintain strong relationships with clients, ensuring a high level of trust, service, and responsiveness.
- Strategic Planning and Execution: Participate in business development activities, strategic market analysis, and execution strategies for new market entry.
- Operational Coordination: Work closely with engineering, estimating, and operational teams to ensure a smooth transition from preconstruction to construction phases, adhere to safety protocols, and maintain project schedules and budgets.
Requirements:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
- At least 15 years of experience in the commercial mechanical construction industry.
- Proficiency in relevant software such as BlueBeam, Timberline, QuickPen, TSI, Wendes, and Maxwell.
- Demonstrated skills in budgeting, estimating, value engineering, and team management.
- Strong strategic thinking and business development capabilities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Must be open to relocation and possess a stable work history.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with large-scale mechanical projects (hospitals, labs, data centers, high rises).
- Familiarity with local codes and regulations in Hawaii.
- Advanced project management and leadership skills.
- Ability to work in a dynamic, high-pressure environment.
- Commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
