Description:

The Cardiovascular Nurse is a Registered Professional Nurse (RN) working in the Cardiac Catheterization Lab (CCL) who practices within the scope of the Illinois Nurse Practice Act to ensure the delivery of comprehensive, high quality, individualized nursing care, based upon knowledge and experience, the nursing process and leadership skills. The Cardiovascular Nurse incorporates the carative factors of human care and performs established procedures in accordance with the CCL and the nursing division policies, procedures and standards of care.


This opportunity is full time, with call rotation, weekends and holidays, and a Hire On Bonus.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Systematically assesses and identifies patient and families’ general condition and needs from admission, throughout course of treatment through step by step implementation of a unified multidisciplinary approach.

2. Utilizes patient assessment findings and clinical judgments to safely perform CCL procedures with the CCL Team and interventionalists

3. Utilizes the scope of nursing practice and standards of care, the Cardiovascular Nurse will continually evaluate patient’s functional status and take any appropriate actions to assist the patient.

4. Provides pre, intra, and post CCL procedural care and monitoring of the patient.

5. Acts as a circulating nurse while performing CCL procedures and administers various drugs including conscience sedation upon order of the physician in-charge.

6. Demonstrates knowledge and competency in the use of medication, including emergency drugs, moderate sedation, reversal agents and common adverse reactions to contrast media.

7. Demonstrates knowledge and competency to perform CCL procedures to include: Cardiac Catheterization/PCI, peripheral angiogram, device insertion, temporary pacemakers, and IABP insertion.

8. Prepares room and positions patient for various procedures.

9. Identifies cardiac rhythms, abnormal ranges, and appropriate interventions.

10. Demonstrates competency recording procedures on the hemodynamics system and identifies normal and abnormal procedural wave forms.

11. Follows radiation safety protocols.

12. Reviews the plan of care and consults with the physician and other health care providers to adjust the plan to assure optimum patient outcomes within the scheduled timeframe.

13. Documents care per documentation standards into EMR or other charting system.

14. Provides patient/family education as needed.

15. Is competent in the performance of PICC Line insertions and performs insertions as requested.

17. Participates in on-call schedule and on-call procedures as scheduled.

Requirements:

Education and/or Experience

  • Registered Nurse with current Illinois License
  • BLS/ACLS
  • RCIS preferred
  • Cardio-Vascular Nursing Certification required within 2 years of employment
  • 1+ years experience highly preferred
  • EMR: EPIC preferred
