Job Description

The Lind Institute of Plastic Surgery is seeking a highly experienced and motivated Surgical First Assistant for our office-based surgical facility located in Spring, Texas. This individual must be personable, energetic, well-groomed, well-kept, and highly organized. A successful applicant will have the ability to close incisions in a timely manner.

Requirements:

  • Experience in cosmetic/plastic surgery with knowledge of breast and body contouring procedures is a must.
  • Strong suturing skills with the ability to close in a timely manner.
  • Available Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and some Thursdays
  • Minimum 2 years of experience working in an operating room as a Certified Surgical Assistant is required.
  • Dependable and hardworking.
  • Honest and trustworthy.
  • Legally able to work in The United States.

Certifications/Licensure:

Must have a valid Surgical First Assist Certification/License of at least ONE of the following:

  • SA-C: Surgical Assistant, Certified through the American Board of Surgical Assistants (ABSA)
  • CSA: Certified Surgical Assistant through the National Surgical Assistant Association (NSAA)
  • CSFA (formally CFA): Certified Surgical First Assistant through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA)
  • LSA: Licensed Surgical Assistant through the Texas Medical Board.

Other Certifications:

  • Valid BLS certification – REQUIRED
  • Valid ACLS certificate – REQUIRED

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Reviews case schedules and check for updates to determine that all cases are covered.
  • Knowledge of appropriate body stabilizing equipment/protective padding to protect the patient against nerve damage, circulation impairment, and other skin or body conditions throughout the surgery.
  • Applies sutures, staples, or other materials to close skin, facia, or subcutaneous wound layers of incision sites.
  • Demonstrates flexibility in assuming additional duties to assist the surgical team as assigned or directed.
  • Complies with the facility's policies and procedures; Understands, verbalizes, and participates in the quality improvement processes to ensure proper functioning and protocols in Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI), Risk Management, and Infection Prevention of the Surgery Center, as directed.
  • Communicate courteously when interacting with patients, physicians, team members, vendors, and the public – in person, on the telephone, or by email.
  • Reports all/any accidents promptly and communicates with peers and management regarding any hazards identified in the workplace to ensure a safe work and patient care environment.
  • Perform other duties or procedures incidental to the surgical procedure when deemed necessary and/or as directed by the surgeon.
  • Other related duties, as assigned or requested by surgeons or management team.

Assists in:

  • Gowning/gloving, prepping patients using aseptic techniques, draping sterile field to expose appropriate operative area(s), positioning and repositioning patients on the surgical table and throughout the procedure, accordingly to surgeon's preference.
  • Maintaining hemostasis throughout the procedure.
  • Assist with all surgical cases including suturing the skin incisions closed.
  • Assist with placing surgical garments on the patient, as needed or directed.
  • Participates in surgical counts of sponges, needles, and other instrumentation with the surgical team.
  • Transport of patient to the recovery area and room turnover.
  • Asssit in any other area as requested by surgeon.

Skills & Knowledge:

  • Knowledge: Working knowledge of operating room procedures, attire, and infection control in an operating room environment. Must be able to maintain focus while assisting on cases.
  • Must have the abililty to close incisions in a very timely manner.

Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years of experience working in an operating room as a Certified Surgical Assistant – REQUIRED
  • Strong suturing skills with the ability to close in a timely manner – REQUIRED
  • Experience in cosmetic/plastic surgery with knowledge of body contouring procedures - REQUIRED

Language:

  • English
  • Spanish (Preferred)

As of 2020, the office now exists as a free-standing location with clinic space, two full AAAASF accredited operating rooms, and a full-service med spa. This full-service office is located in Spring, TX about 25 minutes north of Houston.
