Surgical Tech First Assistant Certified Job Duties:
Surgical Tech First Assistants provide aid in exposure, hemostasis, closure, and other intraoperative technical functions that help the surgeon carry out a safe operation with optimal results for the patient. Surgical Tech First Assistants work under the supervision of a surgeon and registered nurse to facilitate the safe and effective conduct of invasive surgical procedures, ensuring that the operating room environment is safe, that equipment functions properly, and that the operative procedure is conducted under conditions that maximize patient safety. Surgical Tech First Assistants possess expertise in the theory and application of sterile and aseptic techniques and combine the knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, and implementation tools and technologies to facilitate a physician's performance of invasive therapeutic procedures.
  • Performs all of the technical and physical functions and skills related to the job performance of a Surgical First Assistant and an Operating Room Surgical Technologist.
  • Multifaceted communicator under a variety of emotional situations.
  • Cleaning and restocking sterile core areas and Operating Rooms.
Surgical Tech First Assistant Certified Minimum Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Associate degree in: Surgical Technologist
  • Current BLS and/or CPR certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross or the ability to obtain certification within 6 weeks of hire.
  • Certification in The National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or certification as Certified Surgical Assistant (CSA) by the National Surgical Assistant Association.
  • In addition to graduation from accredited technical college or approved program for First Assisting, will also fulfill demonstrated First Assist competencies as defined by Froedtert South Surgical Services Department within 60 days of hire.
  • If no formal First Assist education, previous work experience in a full service OR with validated competencies equivalent to two (2) full years of First Assisting will be considered. Upon hire, candidate must also demonstrate First Assist competencies as defined by Froedtert South Surgical Services Department within 60 days of hire.
  • Employees hired into positions as of January 1, 2016, will be required to obtain certification within six months of hire.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, hear and comprehend the English language.
Salary Range: $30.00 to $46.50/hr (based on experience)
