Job Title: General Superintendent

Reports to: President

Works Latterly With: Project Manager, Lead Estimator

Purpose of Position:

The purpose of the General Superintendent position is to ensure that we are servicing our customer’s needs while fulfilling our contractual obligations with the upmost quality and profitability.

 

Skills and Qualifications:

As the General Superintendent, the successful candidate is required to possess:

  • Previous experience as a General Superintendent or similar role
  • Be able to give clear, concise instructions
  • Excel in excellent communication and delegation
  • Knowledge of local utility codes as it pertains to site utilities
  • In depth understanding of the site construction process
  • A proven track record of teamwork, leadership, and inspiration within an organization
  • Experience in installing and managing the installation of site utilities; water, sanitary sewer, and storm sewer
  • Experience in all area of site grading including BMP construction, rough grading and fine grading of site, roads, and parking lots
  • Be able to proficiently read and interpret civil plans and survey stakes
  • Organizational and time-management skills

 

As a General Superintendent some of your day-to-day responsibilities will be:


Pre-Construction:

  • Attend internal pre-bid meetings
  • Attend internal pre-construction meeting
  • Assist in assembling and planning job schedule as a whole
  • Review and understand all of the project scopes and requirements
  • Sub-contractor recruiting where applicable

During Construction:

  • Ensure a quality product is produced every step in the project
  • Lead and manage multiple teams with integrity while developing individuals on a day-to-day basis
  • Assist Foreman in day-to-day decision making
  • Set performance goals and deadlines for projects, crews, and individuals
  • Attend meetings and develop relationships with clients, sub-contractors, owner, inspectors, and engineers
  • Coordinate materials and equipment delivery with vendors and suppliers
  • Help determine field production rates
  • Create weekly schedules for field personnel and subcontractors
  • Manage and monitor construction schedule and budget with Project Manager
  • Assist in setting up traffic control
  • Oversee sub-contractors’ performance and quality
  • Ensure milestones are being completed for projects on time
  • Maintain a daily log for the job site’s operations
  • Plan and schedule all inspections
  • Implement safety and quality guidelines while ensuring jobsite mains clean and orderly
  • Identify and resolve on-site issues and emergencies
  • Track onsite orders and material usage
  • Relay RFI’s to office
  • Review budget reports with Project Manager
  • Manage scope creep
  • Make changes in the operation as necessary to best meet construction deadlines
  • Implement management techniques that are cost-effective and efficient
  • Staff each job accordingly

 

Post Construction:

  • Generate and complete jobsite punch out lists
  • Attend internal close out meetings
  • Perform any warranty work 

 

Other Responsibilities

  • Assist in purchasing equipment, trucks, and tools
  • Assist in hiring field personnel
  • Complete quarterly reviews on Foreman
  • Assist in scheduling and tracking regular equipment maintenance
  • Solicit relationships with clients, sub-contractors, and vendors
  • Assist in business development
  • Development team members where necessary
  • Offer crew member training where needed both trade and professional development
