ASL Interpreter - Freelance Contractor

A business located in Northern VA, is seeking experienced and certified American Sign Language (ASL) interpreters who can effectively provide virtual remote and/or onsite (various locations including DC, Alaska, Texas, Louisiana, etc.) ASL interpretation services to the deaf and hard-of-hearing community. Basic responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

REQUIREMENTS:

Perform accurate and timely virtual remote (Zoom, MS Teams, WebEx, etc.) or in-person ASL interpretation services on an ad-hoc basis (1-4 times per month on average) to support US government agencies that promote clean energy via community outreach and webinars.
Assignments are booked with a 2-hour minimum.
Transportation or ability to commute to in-person assignments within a 50-mile round trip radius from interpreter’s home address if required.
Ability to cover consecutive ASL interpretation assignments independently for periods of 1-1.5 hours.

DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

At least 3 years experience as an ASL interpreter in professional settings; experience interpreting for USG agencies a plus.
RID National Interpreter Certification (NIC) or Certified by Board for Evaluation of Interpreters (BEI) highly desired.
Possesses academic-level fluency in American Sign Language.
Associate degree or higher from an accredited U.S. school.
Authorized to work in the U.S. (green card holders and U.S. Citizens invited to apply).
Familiarity with scheduling software, Adobe Acrobat, and/or Microsoft Office 365 Products.
Proficient in using video teleconferencing platforms, such as WebEx, Zoom and MS Teams for performing ASL interpretation.
Knowledge of environmental and/or scientific terminology a plus.
