Product Engineering Technician

Under the direction of the Prison Industries Manager (General), the Product Engineering Technician, Prison Industries designs, develops, and maintains CALPIA’s Engineering Unit responsible products. Supervises and instructs up to twenty (20) CDCR incarcerated individuals utilizing Computer Aided Design (CAD) software and engineering methods.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Designs, develops, and maintains CALPIA products using Computer Aided Design (CAD) software (i.e., Autodesk AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor, Autodesk Vault Professional), or other software as required with minimal direction and at speeds commensurate with private industry.
• Provides instruction for up to twenty (20) incarcerated individuals in the use of CAD software (i.e., Autodesk AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor, Autodesk Vault Professional), or other software as required.
• Performs duties which include, but are not limited to, the following: utilizes SOMS software for timekeeping, reports, reviews, incarcerated worker pay and performance evaluations; while maintaining the security and safety of work areas and
• materials.
• Works with other personnel within CALPIA enterprises/factories, divisions, and units, as well as staff in the Engineering Unit to achieve the goals of CALPIA. Travels to CALPIA enterprises/factories as required

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

• Experience in Professional CAD Design or Drafting (Educational non-qualifying)
• Experience with Designing Wood or Metal Products
• Experience in Specific Autodesk Inventor and/or Vault Software
• Institutional safety and security experience, including working with incarcerated individuals
• Education: Equivalent to College Graduate with Engineering Emphasis
