Job Description
Salary: $45-$52/hr

We are looking for a highly experienced Network Manager with a proven track record in leading network teams. This pivotal role entails overseeing the network infrastructure, including both LAN and WAN systems, and maintaining the County's server ecosystem. The ideal candidate will collaborate closely with the cyber security team to ensure network integrity and security. Additionally, the Network Manager will play a key role in budget planning, equipment procurement, and strategic IT initiatives. With a minimum of 5-7 years' experience in networking and system administration, along with prior management experience, the successful candidate will possess in-depth knowledge of Microsoft Windows environments, Cisco Systems, and network operations. Responsibilities:

  • Manage the Network section staff.
  • Manage the network infrastructure including the Local Area Network (LAN) and Wide Area Network (WAN).
  • Maintain all of the County's systems servers.
  • Work with the cyber security team to maintain a secure network environment.
  • Administer, maintain, and upgrade all of the County's servers.
  • Maintain a secure network environment.
  • Maintain all connectivity devices on the LAN and WAN, including hubs, switches, routers, and cabling.
  • Administer and maintain County's server infrastructure, storage area networks (SANs), backup systems, and data recovery.
  • Maintain County's email servers, email archive systems, and web servers.
  • Work with State agencies and other jurisdictions to connect to the County's network.
  • Implement network policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Identify, analyze, and purchase new equipment related to keeping the network, servers, and storage innovative.
  • Help develop the budget and capital expenditure plans for IT and work with leadership to strategically plan multi-year budgets and hardware and software refreshes.
  • Oversee contracts for network-managed services and for professional services.
  • Help support video production of County meetings.
  • Keep abreast of developments in PC/Networking, cyber security, and general IT.
  • Monitor and ensure help desk tickets are responded to on a timely basis including for staff they supervise.
  • Perform capacity and resource planning, assessing network risks and contingency planning.
  • Maintain County Disaster Recovery Plan and Continuity Plan, and coordinate plans with the cyber security team.
  • Serve the needs of internal and external customers.

 

Qualifications:

  • Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field
  • 5 – 7 years of experience in networking and system administration.
  • Requires extensive experience and knowledge of Microsoft Windows environments, Cisco, local and wide area networks, and security.
  • Prior management experience required.
  • Working experience L and thorough understanding of SANs, backup systems and disaster recovery, and emergency preparedness are strongly desired.
  • Thorough knowledge of network operations (LAN, WAN SAN, network-attached devices, etc.).
  • Ability to manage, direct, motivate, and build a cohesive network team.
  • Ability to manage staff in a collaborative environment, following Stafford County values.
  • Ability to evaluate staff performance, develop, and recommend training.
  • Demonstrate an ability to communicate effectively both vocally and in writing and to follow vocal and written instructions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, superiors, other departments, outside agencies, and vendors.
  • Ability and willingness to effectively work as part of a team and to demonstrate team skills to perform a fair share of teamwork responsibilities.
  • Network certifications in Cisco (CCNA or CCNP) and Microsoft Windows Server preferred.
