The Metropolitan Knoxville Airport Authority (MKAA) was established in 1978 as a nonprofit agency to own and operate the city's aviation system, McGhee Tyson Airport and Downtown Island Airport, and has recently celebrated a full 86-years in service to the East Tennessee area.  Being centrally located within a one day's drive or a few hours flight from major cities, MKAA continues to be integral to the air transportation system. The Position:

The purpose of the Custodian Crew Leader position is to oversee and participate in the work of Custodians. Ensures Custodians have work assignments and equipment needed to complete tasks. Updates assignments as needed to cover shift. Reviews and inspects the work of staff to ensure the completion of proper cleanliness. Receives and responds to dispatch calls. Performs the duties of Custodians as needed and handles monthly deep cleaning tasks. The person in this position will also fill in for Building Service Shift Leader in his/her absence.  

Responsibilities:

Below represents a summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this role. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this list of responsibilities.

• Cleans and sanitizes the interior of the airport terminal building using brooms, dust pans, cleaners, mops, vacuums, dusters, buffing machines, carpet cleaner, etc.
• Empties garbage and replaces liners. Removes garbage and refuse to dumpster.
• Cleans and sanitizes restrooms, and stocks supplies for restrooms and closets.
• Cleans windows using proper equipment. Applies strippers and waxes for floor care.
• Cleans baggage belt system and escalators.
• Sweeps street front entrance area.
• Polishes stainless steel in airport areas.
• Ensures custodians have work assignments and equipment/materials.
• Performs related work as required.

The Ideal Candidate:

The ideal candidate should be able to organize and manage time, follow verbal and written communication, and use associated tools & equipment.  He or she must establish and maintain effective working relationships and be able to provide task guidance and training.  He or she should have general knowledge of cleaning solutions, cleaning methods and techniques, applicable equipment and tools, health and safety procedures, and team leadership.  Must be able to work flexible shifts and weekends. 

Minimum Qualifications: High School diploma or equivalent, preferred; and 1 to 3 years’ experience in custodial work in a lead role.

Salary and Compensation:

The salary range for this position is $43,801 - $56,941 (DOE).  MKAA offers a very competitive benefit package for this position, including medical/dental/vision benefits, disability/life insurance, vacation leave, sick leave, and a 401(a)-retirement program.
