  • Travelers must live > 100 miles away from facility
  • Permanent staff must wait 1 full year to return as a traveler

Job Summary: The Operating Room Technician plays a crucial role in surgical procedures by assisting surgeons and other medical professionals in the operating room. They are responsible for preparing the operating room, organizing surgical equipment, and assisting during surgeries. The Operating Room Technician must have expertise in various surgical specialties, including Neuro, Trauma, ENT, and Robotics, and adhere to strict safety protocols and regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Prepare the operating room for surgical procedures, ensuring all equipment and supplies are sterile and readily available.
  2. Assist surgical team by passing instruments, sutures, and other supplies during procedures.
  3. Maintain a sterile field throughout the surgical procedure, following established protocols and guidelines.
  4. Anticipate the needs of surgeons and other team members during surgeries, providing prompt assistance and support.
  5. Handle surgical specimens appropriately, labeling and transporting them to the laboratory for analysis.
  6. Assist with patient positioning and prepping, ensuring proper draping and alignment on the operating table.
  7. Operate and maintain surgical equipment, including lights, suction machines, and sterilizers, following manufacturer guidelines.
  8. Monitor and document patient vital signs and other relevant information during surgeries, alerting the surgical team to any changes or concerns.
  9. Assist with patient transport to and from the operating room, ensuring safety and comfort at all times.
  10. Clean and restock the operating room after each procedure, disposing of biohazardous waste and sterilizing equipment as necessary.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; completion of an accredited Operating Room Technician program preferred.
  • Certification as a Surgical Technologist (CST) or Operating Room Technician (ORT) required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working in an operating room setting, preferably in a Level 1 or 2 trauma center.
  • Current BLS certification required.
  • Strong understanding of surgical procedures and equipment, with expertise in Neuro, Trauma, ENT, and Robotics.
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively as part of a surgical team.
  • Ability to maintain composure under pressure and respond quickly to emergent situations.
  • Willingness to adhere to strict safety protocols and maintain confidentiality of patient information.
