Job Description
Employment Duration: 3 months
Under the immediate supervision of the OR Supports Manager, the incumbent performs cleaning and disinfecting duties within perioperative areas, including operating rooms, Pre-Op and PACU, Sterile Processing, workrooms, clean/dirty utility rooms, offices, bathrooms, and all areas within the perioperative suite footprint. Tasks follow AORN, Joint Commission, and UCSF Infection Control standards.
The incumbent is an integral member of the perioperative team, supporting efficient room turnover and overall team operations. Responsibilities require the ability to operate floor-maintenance machinery, perform overhead cleaning during terminal cleaning procedures, and move equipment to complete cleaning tasks safely using proper body mechanics. The role also includes assisting with patient transport for discharge and providing exemplary customer service to patients, physicians, and coworkers at all times.
Responsibilities
  • Maintain a clean, disinfected, and safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors.
  • Clean and maintain operating rooms, sub-sterile rooms, perioperative areas, workrooms, clean and dirty utility rooms, waiting rooms, and restrooms.
  • Perform room turnover cleaning between cases and terminal cleaning at the conclusion of the daily schedule.
  • Scrub floors according to schedule.
  • Change gurney sheets once patients are in the operating room.
  • Ensure adequate supplies of cleaning materials, soap, and towels within perioperative areas.
  • Wipe down equipment before and after use, including anesthesia equipment, monitor cables, suction hoses, and anesthesia hoses.
  • Use proper body mechanics and alignment when moving equipment and supplies.
  • Empty and clean waste receptacles and replace liners.
  • Label, collect, and remove infectious and non-infectious waste materials from assigned areas.
  • Collect and transport soiled linen using covered linen carts or linen chutes.
  • Transport waste materials using tilt trucks and hand trucks in accordance with safety and infection control procedures.
  • Monitor sharps and waste containers to ensure they do not exceed capacity limits.
  • Assist with materials management and inventory functions, including receiving supplies, reconciling orders, and stocking designated areas.
  • Complete required cleaning and terminal cleaning logs daily.
  • Transport patients by wheelchair from perioperative areas to discharge locations.
  • Inspect work areas and report missing furniture, needed repairs, and safety hazards.
  • Respond to emergencies following established procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
  • Minimum six months prior hospital cleaning experience.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize daily workload.
  • Verbal and written communication skills.
  • Basic arithmetic skills.
  • Ability to interact effectively with patients, staff, visitors, and vendors.
  • High school graduate.
  • Ability to physically handle equipment required for the job, including buffers, scrubbers, and moving OR tables to clean underneath.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working in a perioperative environment
