Job description

Cottage Hospital is seeking an Operating Room Support Technician to join our Surgical Services team. This position plays an essential role in ensuring a safe, clean, and efficient environment for patients, surgeons, nurses, and staff throughout the surgical experience.
The Operating Room Support Technician is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and readiness within the Operating Room (OR), Endoscopy, Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), Sterile Processing Department (SPD), and other Surgical Services areas. Responsibilities include cleaning and disinfecting operating rooms between procedures, completing terminal cleaning at the end of the day, restocking supplies, assisting with equipment cleaning, and supporting infection prevention and regulatory compliance efforts.
In this role, you will help prepare surgical spaces for patient care by maintaining room readiness, managing supplies, removing waste and biohazard materials appropriately, and supporting efficient room turnover between cases. You will work closely with nursing staff, sterile processing personnel, infection prevention professionals, and other hospital departments to ensure a high standard of patient care and safety.
Following successful training, the Operating Room Support Technician will also work independently within Sterile Processing, including Central Sterile operations and endoscope reprocessing.
Responsibilities
  • Clean and disinfect operating rooms between procedures.
  • Perform terminal cleaning of surgical areas according to hospital standards.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized environment throughout Surgical Services.
  • Restock supplies, linens, and personal protective equipment.
  • Assist with equipment and instrumentation cleaning.
  • Support room turnover and procedural readiness.
  • Remove waste, linen, and biohazard materials safely and appropriately.
  • Assist in Sterile Processing and Endoscope Reprocessing following training.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and departmental training.
  • Maintain professional communication and teamwork across departments.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Hospital experience preferred but not required.
  • Operating room cleaning experience is a plus.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness and patient safety.
  • Willingness to learn and work independently after training.
Physical Requirements
  • Frequent walking, standing, bending, and reaching.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds.
  • Ability to climb ladders and perform overhead work.
  • Exposure to cleaning agents, chemicals, and potential communicable diseases.
