Trials Lead-Fulfillment Clerk

Trials Lead - The Trials Department seeks a self-motivated, independent, and efficient worker to fill the role of Trials Lead. Harris Seeds is a company that values integrity in the quality assurance of its seed products and the Trials Department plays an integral role in the selection of these high-quality products. The Trials Lead position will work closely with the Trials Manager to maintain display grounds and execute short row variety trials. The ideal applicant will enjoy both the agricultural industry in addition to focusing on providing seed that will perform to customer’s satisfaction.

Fulfillment Clerk – The Fulfillment Department is a dynamic, fast-paced environment with high standards for efficient order flow that is shown by getting orders picked, scanned, packed and shipped, often within 24 hours of order placement. The Fulfillment Clerk is responsible for varying tasks within the department that pertain to picking, scanning and packing customer orders in a manner that meets company standards for safety, security, and productivity. This position is responsible for the completeness and correctness of all orders leaving our facility.

What You’ll Do:

Trials Lead

• Field Preparation: including tilling, bed laying, tarping, laying plastic mulch/fabric, broad-forking, mulching, soil amendment application.
• Planting: Assist with seed sowing, transplanting, direct sow and cover crop sowing of all trial and display beds.
• Weed management: including hand weeding, implement weeding, flame weeding, tarping, organic herbicide application, planting and termination of cover crops.
• Watering: Operation of irrigation system and hand watering.
• Maintain lawn adjacent to onsite trial fields with mower and weed eater.
• Travel for offsite trials planting, maintenance and noting. Transportation will be provided.
• Assist in harvesting and noting of short row trials.

Fulfillment Clerk

• Correctly operate handheld and box barcode scanners to efficiently scan all picked orders prior to shipping.
• Neatly applies germ labels as required.
• Maintain a clean, neat and orderly work environment and restocks supplies at regular intervals.
• Maintains positive and cooperative working relationships with co-workers.
• Efficiently and accurately pick customer orders for shipment using order pick lists and adhering to established picking procedures.
• Responsible for determining appropriate size shipping boxes and bags for orders.
• Correctly and neatly packs and protects product(s) in shipping boxes to help prevent damage during shipping.
• Accurately places product(s) into envelopes, boxes or other containers and fills with packing materials to help prevent damage during shipping. Closes, seals and labels packages.
• Secures boxes to ensure they remain closed during shipment.

• Experience using tillers, mowers, other garden equipment and tools
• General plant ID knowledge
• General computer skills.
• Ability to sit, stand, walk or bend for extended periods of time.
• Ability to work closely with a small group and be a team player.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to lift 50 lbs.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision.
• High school diploma or equivalent
• 1-2 years of experience in the agriculture field or a related field

Work Requirements

• The Trials Lead position will be Mid – May through Mid – October. Some weekend hours are required.
• The Fulfillment Clerk position will be Mid – October through Mid – May.
• Employee must have reliable transportation to and from workplace

Work Environment – The Trials Lead position operates outdoors in the trial fields under variable weather conditions during the summer including heat, wind sun and rain. This role routinely requires physical tasks such as bending and lifting and the use of garden tools and equipment such as a mower, tiller, leaf blower, hand weeder, pruners, hoses, wheelbarrow, tarps, etc.

The Fulfillment Clerk position operates in a warehouse environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, and standard warehouse equipment such as hand trucks, box cutters and tape dispensers.

Pay Range: $16.50 - $18 per hour
