Space Domain Awareness (SDA) Network Planning Engineer to support the US Space Force, Space Systems Command, Cross Mission Data Branch (USSF SSC/BCCD). The Cross Mission Data (XMD) branch executes activities in support of the alignment of key space data initiatives.

SDA is foundational to Protecting and Defending US Space Systems that provide space-based Intelligence, Early Warning, Communications and Global Positioning services that sustain our way of life, support our national economy and act as force multipliers in times of conflict. The XMD data portfolio includes data as service and data platform initiatives to meet evolving SDA user data needs and objectives. Consumers and producers of data are internal and external to the USSF. The Space Domain Awareness (SDA) mission includes space protection and space surveillance. Execution of the mission includes system acquisition, modernization, and sustainment for ground- and space-based SDA sensors and command and control (C2) systems, including the evolution of legacy architectures, supporting communication systems, data systems, and C2 data processing. The XMD branch supports SSCs data warehouse, data federation, cloud architecture initiatives, C2 Systems and the network architecture that support them.

This is a full-time position at 2424 Garden of the Gods Road, Peterson Space Force Base, Schriever Space Force Base, and other locations in Colorado Springs allowing 1 to 2 days of remote work per week at the discretion of the Government

Responsibilities:
An A&AS contractor is a knowledgeable and trusted advisor to the Government Program Office. As an SDA Network Planning Engineer , you will support the DSC2-D Portfolio Program Manager and provide Advisory and Assistance Services support network architecture modernization and integration to support operational objectives for the warfighter. Duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Engage in government oversight of network design analysis to help the government build resilient networks that support space operations.
  • Interact with subject matter experts, project managers, program management personnel and a variety of mission stakeholders, supporting the analysis of customer requirements that support strategic goals and operations.
  • Support the acquisition, installation, configuration, and maintenance of network components.
  • Engage and provide expert knowledge for network integrity, connectivity, and network upgrades for servers, routers, switches, firewalls, and other telecom equipment
  • Support the resolution of interoperability and integration issues associated with independent network efforts and assist with the governance to pull them into an holistic enterprise network architecture
  • Provide government oversight of functional Integrated Product Teams
  • Review network strategies, conduct data analysis and integration of disparate systems and provide recommendations to the government program team that ensures high quality and optimum performance of network systems to increase network and data availability, resiliency and scalability
  • Work closely with analysts and business users to convert specifications into technical designs
  • Work with stakeholders, prime contractors, DISA and other network providers to resolve bandwidth management issues for mission critical systems
  • Assist in the design and development of C2 network development using an array of different platforms and approaches that meets a variety of use cases and space enterprise network objectives
  • Create professional technical documentation and present for internal and external use
  • Interface with various external/internal customers such as product managers and engineers to gather and define requirements
  • Apply Program Management knowledge and experience to advise the Government Program Management Office
  • Develop and execute integrated risk reduction recommendations and mitigations
  • Develop and maintain strong stakeholder relationships with SDA stakeholders, including the Space Security Defense Program (SSDP), Consolidated Space Operations Center (CSpOC), National Space Defense Center (NSDC), Distributed Space Command and Control (DSC2)-Dahlgren, United States Air Force (USAF), Air Force Research Labs (AFRL), SDA, US Space Force (USSF), DoD Service Organizations, National Partners, International Partners, COCOMs, and intelligence organizations
  • Support stakeholder engagement on matters affecting network execution
  • Travel to CONUS and OCONUS locations upon government direction
  • Other duties as required/requested by the Government within the constraints of the S3 contract
Minimum Required Qualifications:
Citizenship:
Must be a US Citizen
Clearance: Active TS/SCI, agreeable to polygraph

Education: Bachelor's degree in Business, Systems Engineering, Engineering Management, Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field

Years of Experience: 8 or more years of relevant experience in a network engineering and/or network planning role that includes performing architecture and design OR,


  • Master's degree in Computer Science, System Engineering, Network Engineering, Engineering Management or a related discipline with 4 or more years of relevant experience in a Network Planning, Network Engineering, or a Network Architecture role.
Additional Experience:
  • Knowledge of Department of Defense, Missile Defense Agency, Intelligence Community, cloud networks and space systems or DOD networks a plus.
  • Experience developing executable architectures, or analysis of architectures
  • Knowledge of cross -domain solution implementations
  • Knowledge of data access protection and cyber-security activities relative to network or data platforms
  • Able to brief and interact comfortably and professionally with senior leadership.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and with technical accuracy, both orally and in writing, as well as work in a professional manner with peers, management, contractors, academia, and other agencies
  • Experience with various networking technologies and vendors
Preferred Qualifications: Clearance: Active TS/SCI, current polygraph

Additional Experience:
  • Strong technical awareness of SDA network architectures at eh unclassified, secret, and top secret levels.
  • Demonstrated experience successfully executing major projects, providing expert advice to colleagues, and presenting innovative recommendations for advancing programs and/or methods.
  • Knowledge of and/or experience implementing processes and methodologies, including requirements definition and decomposition, design, implementation, testing, and fielding networks.
  • Knowledge of cyber-security activities relative to network platforms.

Hybrid allowing 1-2 days per week of tele-work at the discretion of the Government.
