Job description

The Product Development Engineer will lead cross-functional teams to support the design, development, and release of exterior hardware mechatronic components. This role is responsible for driving engineering changes, improving product quality, and ensuring timely delivery of components within vehicle programs.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead Product Development Teams to manage engineering issues related to exterior hardware mechatronic components.
  • Author Engineering Change Requests to support design updates for quality and cost improvements.
  • Track, analyze, and reduce warranty issues associated with assigned components.
  • Collaborate with suppliers and internal stakeholders to ensure program timing and targets are met.
  • Manage product development activities across multiple commodities, ensuring consistency in execution.
  • Lead supplier engagements to drive actionable items and meet program milestones.
  • Support both current production and future programs, including root cause analysis and problem resolution.
  • Coordinate with program teams and leadership to ensure timely release of hardware into vehicle programs.
  • Oversee integration of closure hardware systems (front, rear, and side) into vehicle platforms.

Team & Interaction

  • Work within a team environment of approximately 10โ€“15 engineers.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering (required, no exceptions).
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant engineering experience.
  • Strong knowledge of product design and development processes.
  • Experience with tools and methodologies such as DFMEA, GD&T, and DFSS.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to interpret and manage engineering change processes.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with change management systems in a manufacturing or automotive environment.
  • Background in vehicle closures (side doors, front/rear closures, tailgates).
