Position Description:

The Animal Care Technician plays a vital role in providing husbandry and compassionate care to laboratory animals, including rodents, rabbits, dogs, pigs, and other species as required. This position involves working in conventional, immunocompromised, and BSLII laboratory areas.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform thorough animal observations, delivering attentive care and husbandry services.
• Observe, record, and promptly report any atypical environmental findings or health concerns to the Vivarium Manager.
• Handle, restrain, and provide care for diverse laboratory animal species, ensuring clean food, water, and bedding.
• Maintain meticulous animal room records, covering census, sanitation, environmental monitoring, enrichment, feeding, and cage card animal identification.
• Provide daily reports on the facility's general condition, safety, sanitation, equipment operation, and environmental monitoring of assigned areas.
• Operate and maintain animal care equipment, including washing, cleaning, and autoclaving cages.
• Ensure humane treatment of animal populations.
• Perform additional duties as directed by management.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
• 6 months' prior experience is highly desirable.
• Some prior applicable experience and proficiency in English.
• Ability to perform duties with minimal supervision.
• Ability to comprehend light to moderately complex SOPs and protocols.
• Clear and readable documentation is a crucial requirement for this position
• Must be flexible to work varying schedules, including weekend and holiday rotations.
• Ability to work in a moderate to high noise level environment and perform repetitive tasks like walking, bending, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
• Occasional local travel may be required.
