The New Product Development Engineer is responsible for the mechanical designs and implementation of systems for industrial air compressors and vacuum systems. The designs and ideas of the New Product Development Engineer will be instrumental to the success of Powerex. The New Product Development Engineer will be responsible for designing products from concept to production build ready. He or she will have the opportunity to pitch new ideas to the leadership team of Powerex. The New Product Development Engineer will have the opportunity to create new processes and revise current processes to improve efficiency throughout Powerex. He or she will work with Powerex’s leadership team to fully utilize current and future software tools. Additionally, the engineer will enjoy the satisfaction of having their designs manufactured in our factory. This position will support the Sales and Production teams with technical expertise on new products. The New Product Development Engineer must be capable of working diligently with a small team. He or she will be expected to learn quickly and internalize the knowledge for use in new designs. This position may have the opportunity to work one day per week from home.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
  • Create documentation of new designs including 3D models, drawings, bills of material and technical information needed for brochures and product manuals.
  • Convert customer requirements into product designs.
  • Participate in new product development activities (component design and/or selection, fabrication, testing, etc.)
  • Ability to work with Manufacturing to implement new product designs into production.
  • Analyze where processes and procedures are under-utilized or inefficient then design new processes and procedures for the business to follow.
  • Ability to work independently and with other team members.
  • Ability to prioritize work assignments and meet design deadlines.
  • Support sales and technical service in answering technical questions about new products.
  • Capability to utilize hand and simple power tools along with instruments required to setup and perform lab tests.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with both verbal and written skills.
  • Ability to understand basic electrical concepts.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
  • A bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or other relevant engineering discipline is required.
  • At least two years of relevant experience
  • Experience creating parts and assemblies in 3D CAD; Solid Edge preferred.
  • Experience creating drawings for manufacturing and assembly drawings.
  • Experience with coding languages (VBA, Python, Java, etc.); VBA preferred.
  • A technical aptitude for engineered systems allowing the person to quickly grasp the product designs and the applications of the products.
  • Competent in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, & Microsoft Project
  • Must have strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with PDM and ERP software; (Teamcenter and Infor’s Syteline) is a plus.
WORK CONDITIONS:

While performing the duties of this job in the Plant or Warehouse, the employee can be exposed to noise. The noise level is usually moderate but hearing protection may be required in designated areas.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk and sit. The employee will use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to sit and to use a computer keyboard with mouse for long periods of time. The employee will occasionally lift and/or move 25 pounds.
