Head Swim Coach - Summer MCSL Swimming

General purpose: The Head Summer Swim Coach at Cedarbrook will manage all aspects of a summer swim program, fostering the development of a fun, competitive and robust swim program. 

Position responsibilities:  

Administrative

• Conduct meetings before and throughout the season with the assistant coaching staff and the swim team committee about the upcoming season.

• Follow the Cedarbrook Employment Procedures as directed by the Cedarbrook Club Board

• Manage all aspects of Meet Manager and SwimTopia to enter swimmers into their assigned events/teach the assistant coaches to do the same.  

• Monitor athletes’ progress throughout the season and perform any administrative work associated with the Long Course, Divisional and All-Star meets

• Ensure that the leadership provided fits with the rules of the Montgomery County Swim League (MCSL)

• Provide a welcoming environment to swimmers, particularly those who might be new to swimming or who have not had competitive experience before

Equipment

• Maintain and evaluate all gear associated with the team (i.e. the starter, kickboards, team laptop, etc)

• Make sure that necessary equipment is ready for home meets, practice and/or any away meets (this includes ensuring all equipment is ready for home meets).

• Keep swim team committee informed of any apparel or equipment needs or ideas for the athletic or spirit needs of the team (i.e. swimmer of the week caps, new ideas on things to reward or motivate swimmers) 

Practice

• Evaluate and assign kiddie hawk swimmers, big team swimmers and attend morning and afternoon practices

• Attend and oversee all scheduled practices, meets, championships and the team awards dinner unless precluded by illness, or excused with prior permission

• Provide workouts and oversee successful execution of them during practices

• Mentor the assistant and associate coach(es) and develop their understanding of swimming instruction as well as their knowledge of workouts and development of the swimmers throughout the season

Meets:

• Create and populate a roster by noon on Thursday prior to the A meets

• Ensure swimmers are signing up for B meets according to guidelines.

Communication:

• Provide and support timely communication with parents and swimmers about eligibility and availability for meets

• With reinforcement from the swim team committee and parents, partner in making sure that swimmers are aware of what rules govern eligibility for A meet participation (how relays are decided, how many events swimmers can swim, etc) 

• Have clear expectations of attendance and commitment while also creating a fun and relaxed swim environment

• Provide communications to the team if practices are cancelled for weather.

Essential skills and experience: 

• Certificate in pool management

• Prior experience as a head or assistant coach

• A genuine love for swimming and for coaching athletes of varying athletic ability

• Salary is competitive and based on experience
