Reporting to the Design Manager, the Cross-Departmental Graphic Designer works in collaboration with other departments within the Museum to provide assistance, creative support, and administrative assistance for any and all graphic design projects.
Duties/Responsibilities:
As prioritized by the Design Manager, the Cross-Departmental Graphic Designer will develop creative, attractive and visually cohesive designs for a wide variety of items throughout the museum (servicing one or more departments). These will vary from tight turn-arounds, to longer and more involved projects encompassing many disciplines and formats.
Using creative software on Apple Macintosh computers, assist the department team with all stages of design work – including comp creation, mock-ups, art production, and vendor collaboration – for items such as those listed above.
If requested by the Design Manager, complete initial design work from comps and concepts started by other in-house designers.
For items to be produced with in-house resources, utilize the Exhibits Department equipment and materials for mounting, trimming, or other minor fabrication.
Assist in the creation and solidification of an (on-going) style guide for PAM design work and promote adherence to the guide by all departments.
These can be (but not limited to):
Stationery
Mockups (both digital and physical)
Signage / Wayfinding
Marketing emails and other promotional materials
Layout design
Print production
Logo creation and brand roll-out
Log design requests to the Design department’s Trello task board, and track accordingly.
Participate in the training and development of self within the graphics and arts fields.
Provide retouching: prepare photographic images for print and/or web use by removing flaws, adjusting color, and generally enhancing appearance and quality of images.
Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
Must be fluent in the standard suite of Adobe software, and demonstrate a technical understanding of the design process in both the digital and print/production space.
Should be a conscientious, energetic, self-starter capable of thinking independently when a project demands it.
Must have problem solving skills and be resourceful.
Ideally, the Graphic Designer will be flexible and adaptable in a fast paced environment.
Strong typography skills, good design sense, and demonstrate restraint for the sake of style.
Education and Experience:
Minimum Education (or substitute experience) required:
Certificate in Graphic Design, B.A. Degree in Graphic Design or equivalent industry experience with a proven portfolio
Minimum Experience required:
3+ years of experience (experience with an understanding of HTML and Adobe After Effects is a plus).
