MGR DESIGN ENGINEERING

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Responsible for the overall management of the design of residential splits system products, including product design, technology development and talent management for Daikin's high-volume HVAC products. Ensure the new product developments meet project schedules, performance and reliability targets based on business needs. Manage and coordinate the activities of CAD drafters, designers, and design engineers for the creation of new international product designs and the sustainment of existing international designs for Daikin's Heating, Ventilation and Air-Conditioning (HVAC) products. Assist with advanced CAD detail and assembly drawings; mark-up prints and other reference materials in line with new product development project scope and requirements. Assist with product design documentation including bills of materials, cost analyses, drawings, and engineering change requests. Manage complete product layouts, from detail drawings and sub-assemblies, final assemblies and Bills of Material (BOMs). Manage product design by providing technical guidance. Develop and implement continuous improvement opportunities, lean initiatives, and design for manufacturing (DFM) tools. Lead cross functional team meetings, negotiate with cross functional team members to support the launch of new products and resolve issues to meet the business objectives. Provide engineering leadership, work direction and feedback to engineers for the successful development of new HVAC products. Develop an environment that fosters a close partnership with marketing and operations to meet business objectives. Identify, assess, and actively manage project risks to ensure smooth execution of projects. Mentor team members and prepare succession plans for team members. Define, communicate, and champion engineering process improvement initiatives. Evaluate new technologies and develop business cases to justify expenditures. Perform job functions related to labs and/or design engineering as needed. Coordinate project work internally with the department and externally with other departments to ensure on-time completion of projects within budget. Coordinate cross functional project planning and engineering resource planning. Work with suppliers to improve quality and resolve product issues. Assist manufacturing with product launches and issue resolution. Drive continuous improvement projects related to product design and quality.

Minimum Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Design or a closely related field plus Five (5) years of progressive experience as an Engineer with a high-volume HVAC manufacturer with Residential and/or Commercial HVAC and refrigeration product design, engineering product development, including leadership in executing new products into market, including five (5) years of systems engineering experience designing complex HVAC systems and architectures and experience delivering major HVAC projects and working with global teams in different regions to deliver projects.
