The Role

We are looking for multi-skilled and flexible candidate who can balance technical maintenance, supporting building operations with good people skills. The facilities & operations manager is responsible for creating a suitable working environment, ensuring facilities are always clean and installing and maintaining adequate infrastructure, among other duties.

Moreover, facilities managers need to be able to attend to multiple concerns involving both workers and their working environment, requiring good organizational and multitasking ability.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities/Requirements

• Performs a variety of skilled and unskilled duties in support of the facility operations, preventative maintenance, and general maintenance for both Redwood City, CA and Chicago facilities.

• Manage and develop facilities staff within a matrix reporting organization.

• Maintain, troubleshoot (and manage contractors) for items related to building systems and infrastructure, equipment, and grounds, including plumbing, electrical, HVAC and BMS.

• Manage Facilities projects while maintaining regulatory compliance.

• Responds to facilities requests and follows up with employees on facilities issues and problems.

• Coordinate calibration related activities with in-house equipment owners and outside calibration service providers.

• Maintain calibration/maintenance database, input new equipment & status of existing equipment/information.

• Maintain oversite to pest control activities.

• Ensure facilities meet OSHA, EPA, state and federal regulations.

• Implement and oversee business facility software solutions (ie BMRAM, temperature control monitors).

• Works on assignments that are complex in nature requiring considerable judgment and initiative.

• Add in the qualification of manufacturing facilities

• Review and revise Facilities related SOP's.

• Lead the safety committee as the Safety Officer

• Will have on-call duties and to respond to after-hours emergency calls

• Support shipping and receiving, and material control duties

• Managing and communicating updates from the property management company

Education, Knowledge & Experience

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
  • B.S. degree in an Engineering field preferred, or commensurate experience with 5-7 years of relevant experience .
  • Prior experience working in a clean room environment is highly preferred.
  • Experience in medical device industry preferred.
  • Ability to work with hazardous materials and chemicals and follow safety procedures.
  • Technical knowledge of the life sciences/diagnostics manufacturing equipment and support equipment including but not limited to: solvent waste and exhaust, solvent waste and exhaust, chilled/condenser water, hot water, process chilled water & DI water, process gases, controls, and monitoring systems.
  • In-depth knowledge of building, fire, safety, and cleanroom standards and codes, including knowledge of Fire Life Safety and Gas Life Safety Systems and requirements.
  • Knowledge of building control systems and remote energy management systems.
  • In-depth knowledge and experience of MEP/HVAC BIM/CAD.
  • Ability to work effectively as an individual with minimal direction, and as part of a larger multifunctional team.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational planning, time management, and multitasking abilities.
  • Requires the ability to perform routine bending and lifting and pushing of 50 lbs.
  • Travel up to 50%, as necessary
  • This is a full-time and on-site position in Redwood Shores, CA or Chicago, IL.
  • Compensation target range for someone based near Redwood Shores, CA, commensurate with experience is: $130-$145k.
