Position: Shipping Lead

FSLA Status: Full-Time/Non-Exempt

Location: Mesquite, TX

Travel: $21.50/hr

Scope of the Role

The Shipping Lead is responsible for ensuring all incoming and outgoing shipping deliveries are operating in an efficient, safe, and timely manner. This position oversees the day-to-day shipping operations and its team members within the department. This position is expected to perform all shipping job duties correctly in compliance with all Company policies and procedures and meet quality and productivity expectations.

Essential Functions & Key Responsibilities

• Utilize docks, warehouse layout, and route truck loading patterns that minimize loading time. Responsible for creating shipping documents, selecting appropriate carriers and ensuring shipments go out accurately and on time.

• Assist area supervisor with setting up daily/weekly work assignments for associates.

• Accurately scan merchandise to match correct and quality labels.

• Ensure that all orders are shipped by end of shift into correct trailers.

• Ensure that dock is setup prior to start of shift daily.

• Help in defining root cause for inaccuracies.

• Ensure that each trailer is loaded within 2 hours and carriers are properly notified.

• Assist in completing necessary paperwork as directed.

• Provide feedback through side-by-side coaching and on-the-job training.

• Communicate inventory errors to the Warehouse Leadership team.

• Provide information regarding associate performance and concerns to area supervisor for appropriate evaluation and action.

• Communicates with other leads to ensure a consistent team environment is maintained.

• Motivate team members to achieve goals.

• Makes recommendations to improve operational flows.

• Reassigns staff, as necessary.

• 70% of shift is hands on / 30% of shift is clerical.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Required Experience

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.

• Must have 3+ years of recent experience in a similar role within the manufacturing, production, or distribution environments.

• Minimum 2-year experience using warehouse distribution equipment, i.e., operate forklift and pallet jack required.

• Demonstrate a sense of urgency in achieving goals.

• Must be able to prioritize and perform multiple tasks.

• Display patience, self-confidence, and stress tolerance.

• Must have solid organizational and communication skills.

• Assertive and self-motivated, able to analyze and prioritize tasks.

• Willing to accept new challenges and responsibilities.

• Must be computer literate in Microsoft Office Suite and job-related software.

• Excellent attendance required; must be able to work on a regular and predictable basis or as schedule due to changes in the business needs and/or during peak season.

• Ability to walk or stand for long periods of time and walk the distribution center and surrounding areas as needed.

• Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Ability to work in a warehouse environment with variable noise levels, lighting conditions and temperature variation.
