Tooling/CNC Operator

The Tooling/CNC Operator, under the supervision of the Tooling Manager, will interpret design schematics, cut and shape dies, and assemble the completed parts. Will also need to test the performance of the completed product. As a EDM - CNC Programmer will set up and operate a variety of machine tools to produce precision parts and instruments. Fabricate, modify or repair mechanical instruments by applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Reading and interpreting blueprints, design schematics, and CAD drawings.
• Visualizing and computing metal shapes and tolerances.
• Designing jigs and templates as work aids in the fabrication of parts.
• Measuring and marking metal stock for machining.
• Setting up machine tools such as drills, lathes, grinders, and milling machines.
• Cutting and shaping blocks to specified dimensions.
• Filling, grinding, and shimming metals to ensure a smooth finish.
• Fitting and assembling tools and die parts.
• Inspecting finished dies and tools for defects, smoothness, and contour deformities.
• Conducting test runs with completed tools and dies.
• Program, set up and operate wire EDM machines and CNC machines.
• Completes maintenance and production projects as required.
• Perform preventative maintenance on lathes, grinders, mills, CNC and EDM on a regular basis.
• Maintain a clean work area and practice good housekeeping on a regular basis.
• Actively participates in correcting and communicating safety hazards.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

• High School Diploma or GED
• 1-2 years of machining and manual milling experience
• Specialized training in welding, machining and fabrication a plus.
• Knowledge of DP Esprit and MasterCam software preferred

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Able to endure working in a manufacturing environment with inside excessive hot and cold temperatures, able to tolerate exposure to dust and noise.
• Prolonged sitting and/or standing on concrete floors; Frequent walking; Occasional climb ladders, work in confined spaces.
• Frequent reaching; Repetitive use of wrist, hands and fingers.
• Able to lift and/or push up to 50 lbs. on a frequent basis (preferred but not required)
