POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Human Resources Generalist is responsible for multiple human resource activities to support the organization. This role will focus on office staff recruiting,  leading employer brand efforts and onboarding, employee engagement strategies and programs, DEIB initiatives, talent management, and development. As a trusted advisor, you will bring your experience and ideas to create and support an engaging work environment.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:

These responsibilities generally describe the nature of the position and may not be all-inclusive:

 

Employer Branding and Recruiting:

  • Create and place ads on various job boards for open positions.
  • Coordinate registration and attendance at college Career Fairs; attend as needed.
  • Establish a company presence on Handshake job board to attract students for internships and entry-level positions.
  • Source candidates for Office positions on LinkedIn.
  • Review resumes and coordinate with hiring managers to identify potential candidates.
  • Conduct interviews both on the phone and in-person; schedule interviews for hiring managers.
  • Utilize recruiting agencies as needed to help fill open positions.
  • Prepare offer letters for selected candidates.
  • Design and implement an engaging onboarding experience for new office hires (including interns), ensuring a smooth transition into the company culture and their roles. Including coordinating new hire welcoming events annually, quarterly, and monthly.
  • Maintain data related to hiring efforts and provide reports for management.


Employee Engagement - building a culture that supports Horwitz's overall Values and Purpose.

  • Create ongoing company communication strategy for both office and field employees (including monthly newsletters and leadership communications).
  • Coordinate the administration of employee engagement surveys, analyze results, and present findings to leadership, along with action plans for improvement.
  • Support the creation and execution of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) initiatives, fostering a workplace culture that supports Horwitz's overall Values and Purpose.


Talent Management & Development

  • Create and maintain Job Descriptions.
  • Collaborate with department leaders to assess talent development needs and create comprehensive training and development plans to support employee growth and skill enhancement (including internship program).
  • Partner with leadership to assess current organizational structure and design, identifying opportunities for optimization and alignment with business objectives.

Generalist Needs

  • Partners with HR Manager to support all existing HR programs and policies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Strong prioritization and organizational skills with a focus on attention to detail and accuracy while meeting tight deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills with a high degree of tact and diplomacy.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to work with all levels of management and a broad array of candidates, customers, and suppliers outside the company.
  • Customer service orientation with timely, solution-orientated response.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
  • A high level of integrity, sound judgment & discretion regarding handling confidential or sensitive information.
  • The ability to be flexible and adapt to changing priorities, roles, and managers.


EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • 5+ years of HR Generalist experience, with specific recruiting expertise. .
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or related field desired.
  • Solid understanding of HR laws and regulations, specifically knowledge of Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) and affirmative action requirements.
  • Experience with HRIS and ATS systems.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience working in construction &/or a union environment – a plus.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to work at computer for up to 8 hours or more per day.
