Job Title: Middle School Educational Technology Integrator

Reports to: Assistant Director of Educational Technology and Middle School Director


Essential Responsibilities and Duties:

In order to facilitate daily work and project-based planning, the primary role is defined in three parts:


Students

  • Assist in managing student technology issues as promptly as possible, as they arise. If this involves coordination with IT due to software/hardware needs, communication and follow-through should be detailed and prompt.
  • Support the MS Admin team in the resolution of student struggles as they pertain to social media and online issues when necessary.
  • Support the MS Deans and Counseling team with students who need help safely and appropriately navigating the online world when necessary.
  • Work with faculty to ensure that source texts (novels for English, textbooks for other departments) are as accessible as possible (through Audible,Learning Ally, or Kurzweil). In the case where source documents are not accessible, work with assigning faculty to facilitate accessible versions.
  • Facilitate installation, support and training for students in speech to text/text to speech needs through Read and Write for Google, as well as Google Apps STT engine.
  • Facilitate installation, support and training for students to effectively utilize Google Apps for Education, particularly Google Drive and Google Classroom
  • Working knowledge of Chromebooks, and a broad-based knowledge of apps/platforms for learning engagement a plus

Teaching Responsibilities

  • Push in and support for small group in Literacy and Math year long
  • Teach two technology related courses 6th, 7th, and 8th grade, year long
  • Support curriculum development and teaching of social and digital media technology related coursework (may include team teaching and coverage)
  • Development and annual revision of curriculum for subject area instruction
  • Teach one literacy or math class

Faculty

  • Push into classrooms in order to observe and support students and faculty technology use.
  • Facilitate implementation, support and training for faculty to effectively utilize available technology solutions
  • Facilitate and manage peripheral technology (interactive whiteboards, scanners, cameras, and projection appliances) which can be used in a classroom setting to support the creation of content and enrich the learning experience
  • Support faculty in the identification of useful and supportive tools
  • Facilitate installation, support and training for faculty to effectively utilize content creation tools which can be used with the interactive whiteboards in every classroom. The goal is that every teacher can deliver a multisensory, accessible curriculum.
  • Support curriculum development for all content
  • Implement and integrate Assistive Technology (AT) for students, including educating faculty on how to integrate in the classroom
  • Help with general technology literacy, vet and provide documentation and self-help resources
  • Work with the CSE Coordinator or liaison to facilitate AT evaluations
  • Provide regular/ ongoing professional development and support for faculty

Families

  • Engage in timely family communication in both a proactive and as needed manner
  • Participate and/or facilitate parent programs regarding technology, social media and student life
  • Participate in parent conferences as a blocks teacher
  • Participate in parent meetings and conferences regarding AT and course work
  • Support the MS Admin team and deans in communication with families regarding behavioral interventions and plans

Community

  • Maintain documentation and resources on Mary McDowell domain (both internal and external sites, sheets, forms, etc.)
  • Help facilitate documentation of student/classroom work for school publications
  • Collaborate with IT and other division Ed-Tech coordinators on larger school-wide technology initiatives
  • Engage in professional development opportunities to bring new technology and methods back to MMFS
  • Participate in community wide events and meetings

Technology

  • Assist IT Operations team with level 1 troubleshooting of hardware, software, telcom, and interactive board issues
  • Assist in deploying and maintaining chromebook fleet and faculty Surface computers
  • Maintain and repair curricular devices - robots, 3d Printers, tech instructional manipulatives and project kits

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.


Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time, exempt ten-month position that follows the academic calendar.


Travel

Travel between campuses is necessary on occasion for meetings, are scheduled with advanced notice, and are within walking distance from each other.


Work Environment & Physical Demands

This job requires the ability to maintain the physical capacity required to navigate the school environment and to ensure the safety of the students. The ability to open filing cabinets and bend or stand for long periods of time, as necessary. Classroom locations vary based on student schedules and staff may need to teach from different rooms.

Requirements:

Required Education & Experience

  • A BA/BS in a technology education-based field, or a BA/BS with a certification in some form of education or technology.
  • A passion for technology, education, and emerging trends which blend the two.

Preferred Education & Experience

Proficiency with Microsoft Office and G Suite applications. Experience in the special education, private sector, or Independent School system a plus. Commitment to equity and justice, including knowledge and skills related to cultural competency are desired

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, this position's annual base salary range is $60,000 - $80,000.
