TRANSPORTATION MANAGER

Summary:

As one of the four members of the plant leadership team, the Transportation Manager oversees and manages all transportation and distribution operations. Responsibilities include supervision of Drivers, Loaders, Dispatchers, and Will Call. These functions include truck routing, transportation log, driver payroll, operational and financial reporting, maintenance of trucks and trailers, carrier negotiation, and customer service (as needed).

Metal Sales is the nation's largest manufacturer of metal roofing and building systems with 21 locations across America. Our Denver facility, located in Frederick, CO, supports our valued customers in Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, and South Dakota.

You’ll be responsible for (but not limited to):

• Managing the Denver’s plant’s in-house transportation fleet (10 Drivers) by developing a productive and cost-effective shipping and routing schedule and partnering with common carriers as needed
• Monitoring and maintaining all transportation records including driver logs, fuel receipts, tolls paid, incidental expenses, and vehicle maintenance
• Providing world-class customer service to Metal Sales customers inquiring about delivery status
• Managing the logistics of loading, truck routes and stops for maximum efficiency and effectiveness
• Creating department operating budgets, standard operating procedures, and other administrative support such as yearly performance evaluations, scheduling, and payroll
• Fostering a great work environment for direct reports (Truck Drivers, Dispatch, Loaders and Will Call) by recruiting top talent, coaching, training, and developing the transportation team
• Providing clear communication, daily and weekly metrics, and proactive collaboration as part of the branch leadership team
• Ensuring the team works in a safe environment by following all Metal Sales safety policies, conducting quarterly Driver safety meetings, and adhering to all regulations established by Federal and State governing bodies

The most qualified candidates will have:

• Five years in a management/supervisory role preferably in the trucking industry and/or shipping receiving
• Proven ability to follow, improve, and execute procedures necessary to maintain effective workflow and communication between all departments, including Sales and Production.
• Working knowledge of Department of Transportation (D.O.T.) rules and regulations
• Associate degree in logistics or related field or two years equivalent transportation supervision/management experience
• Excellent communications skills, both oral and written, and proficiency in Microsoft Office and other software platforms
• Experience with NetSuite, RFSmart and Dispatch Track a plus
• A desire to work in a hands-on team-oriented environment with a “can do” attitude
• Normal office hours are 7am – 4pm. Extended hours during the week and on weekends may be necessary at times
• Fluency in English, both verbal and written. Bilingual in Spanish a plus

Salary starting at $70,000.
