Job Description

The family engagement coordinator serves as a crucial liaison between the childcare programs and the families that we serve. The essential duties and responsibilities of the family engagement coordinator include planning, organizing, and facilitating all components of the family engagement strategies at Catholic Charities Childcare. This involves working closely with program educators, administrators, families, and other partner agencies in the community. This role is an excellent opportunity for individuals interested in developing organizational, communication, leadership, and advocacy skills in the realm of early childhood education.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop, update, and submit the program’s Family Engagement and Comprehensive Services Plan annually to Boston UPK Family Engagement/Community Services (FE/CS) manager.
  • Attend the required annual family engagement coordinator orientation.
  • Attend monthly check-in meetings with the Boston UPK FE/CS manager.
  • Assist parents in filling out the Boston UPK initial, mid and post program survey.
  • Engage with the Family Council to assess the quality of family engagement work.
  • Strengthening and Supporting Family Capacity by developing and maintaining respectful, supportive, and ongoing relationships with families, educators, administrators, and community partners.
  • Engage one-on-one with families and serve as a resource for families who have questions about Boston UPK and Catholic Charities Childcare.
  • Share the program's Family Engagement Plan with enrolled families annually.
  • Implement and facilitate components of the family engagement plan.
  • Ensure that the Ages and Stages Questionnaire, ASQ, is conducted within 45 days of enrollment for all students.
  • Develop and facilitate at least one family engagement event per year to build family capacity, including but not limited to workshops on parenting skills, mental health support, understanding education benchmarks etc.
  • Assist parents in registering for Boston UPK-specific family engagement events and training workshops.
  • Refer families to resources in the community as appropriate.
  • Serve as a resource to families in navigating the special education referral process when necessary.
  • Serve as a resource to families in navigating onsite or offsite comprehensive health screenings such as dental, hearing, vision, and other preventative healthcare screenings.
  • Serve as a resource to families for the transition into the classroom, between classrooms, or into kindergarten. Recruit, support, and empower two parents to serve on the Boston UPK Family Council each year.
  • Demonstrate familiarity with the program’s core components, policies, and processes and be prepared to explain it to families when necessary.
  • Support enrollment recruitment and marketing efforts.
  • Attend the required individualized professional development workshops as guided by the Boston UPK FE/CS manager. And attendance at meetings and trainings.
  • Work environment in a general office and forward facing within the community.
  • Maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality.
  • Local travel as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in education or relevant field with 2 years of experience.
  • Experience working in the early childhood education field especially working with students and families from historically underserved communities.
  • Communication and problem solving, attention to detail and relationship building and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to carry out multiple projects concurrently with excellent organization.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, including Google Docs, Sheets, and Power Point
  • Bilingual Spanish or other language preferred.
