MEC is seeking a motivated individual to fill a position of Equipment Operator in our Emporia District.

The purpose of this position is to operate specialized equipment used in electric line construction, maintenance and replacement, including but not limited to: digging machines, derricks used in setting and removing poles, air compressors and other equipment mounted on a digger truck. Takes proper care of equipment and performs minor maintenance.

This position will provide efficient, safe operation of the line truck and other vehicles and equipment for installation and maintenance specific to the underground distribution facilities. Must be familiar with all traffic laws and vehicle safety rules and regulations and abide by them. Provides maintenance and support to the construction crew and sees that an adequate supply of materials, tools, and safety equipment is maintained on the trucks in order to provide prompt and efficient service to the field personnel.

Qualified applicants must have a High School Diploma, GED or equivalent required. Must have experience in construction and maintenance of electrical distribution system in some work-related capacity. Experience in operating heavy equipment such as tractors, trenchers, backhoes, derrick, and other related equipment used to install, maintain, and repair electrical systems in energized and de-energized situations required; however, will accept experience in operating heavy equipment in similar industries or fields of practices such as construction. Candidates must have basic computer skills.

Must have a thorough working knowledge of the safe and proper use of equipment, i.e. trenchers, derricks, backhoes, and other specialized equipment used in electric line construction, maintenance and replacement, both energized and de-energized. Able to learn and adhere to safety procedures and OSHA regulations pertaining to work duties. Able to become knowledgeable of the Cooperative's system geography and work within assigned service territory.

Must have aptitude for mechanically-oriented work and able to gain a thorough understanding of all equipment used on the system including safety requirements and compliance. Must be skilled in work required in connection with the installation of materials and equipment used in the construction and maintenance of electric lines, substations, and service to Members.

Must have the ability to produce quality work, be efficient and meet the specifications provided. Must be able to fill out necessary reports paying close attention to detail and use applicable software on the job. Must be able to handle a variety of diverse tasks and organize work to meet deadlines. Must be accurate, confidential, dependable, organized and able to work with little or no direct supervision.

Must adhere to and promote safety. Must have the ability to meet and deal tactfully and courteously with Members, other employees, and the general public. Must always treat Members respectfully and in a professional manner in support of the Cooperative's strong commitment to outstanding customer service. Must be able to handle a wide range of projects and routine tasks simultaneously.

Must satisfactorily pass pre-employment and random drug/alcohol screenings, participant in a drug-free workplace and have quality work ethic and safety record.
