POSITION OVERVIEW:

As a Level l Maintenance Service Engineer/Operator at the Proton Cancer Treatment Center you will play a vital role in ensuring the optimal operation and maintenance of complex medical equipment used in the treatment of cancer patients. You will be on the front line of action at the Cancer Treatment Center to ensure uninterrupted patient care during clinic hours. You will be responsible for troubleshooting and resolving equipment failures, providing technical support, conducting preventative maintenance, and documenting servicing activities. It is expected that you will learn the necessary skills and knowledge through on-the-job training, some classroom training, and self-directed study of engineering designs and work instructions. You will be scheduled for shift work and occasional weekends as needed.


JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance, inspections, and calibrations on the proton therapy equipment, including the cyclotron, gantry system, PPU, and imaging devices. Ensure compliance with manufacturer’s recommendations and industry standards.
  2. Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve technical issues, malfunctions, or faults in a timely manner to minimize downtime. Collaborate with other Service Engineers and escalate complex problems as needed.
  3. Quality Assurance: Conduct quality assurance tests and checks to ensure the accurate and safe delivery of proton therapy. Document test results and maintain records in compliance with regulatory standards.
  4. Patient Safety: Prioritize patient safety by adhering to radiation safety protocols, infection control measures, and other safety guidelines. Communicate with the clinical team to ensure patient safety during treatment.
  5. Equipment Upgrades: Assist in the installation and commissioning of new equipment and software upgrades. Stay up to date with the latest technology and advances in proton therapy.
  6. Documentation: Maintain detailed service records, work orders, and equipment history. Prepare reports on maintenance activities, equipment status, and service- related documentation.
  7. Inventory Management: Monitor and manage spare parts inventory through the accurate use of the work order system to ensure the availability of essential components for timely repairs and maintenance.
  8. Regulatory Compliance: Stay current with the industry regulations, safety standards, and quality assurance requirements.
  9. Emergency Response: Be prepared to respond to equipment emergencies and participate as necessary to maintain continuous service availability.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

Education/Experience/Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Physics or an Associate's degree with 2-3 years of related experience in Engineering or Physics discipline preferred.
  • Electrical and Mechanical skills and ability to troubleshoot complex systems, including power distribution, power supplies, controllers, chilled water distribution and other Electrical/Mechanical equipment.
  • Previous experience installing and/or servicing complex medical devices preferred.
  • Previous experience maintaining high voltage and high current power supplies and circuits preferred.
  • Previous experience with basic Windows Services, Microsoft file systems, basic networking (collisions, ping, netstat, vlan, security (sonic firewall) tracert), DICOM config (ports, AE’s, basic, troubleshooting, services) a plus.
  • Experience with CT Imaging or other medical imaging preferred.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Knowledge of FDA and ISO Quality System Regulations for Medical Devices preferred.
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings.
  • Excellent documentation skills and proven background with data collection, daily logs of system testing, system failures, and repair procedures preferred
  • Excellent presentation skills and ability to clearly convey complex topics to a diverse audience including senior management preferred.

Work Environment / Travel

  • Strict adherence to safety rules and regulations at all times including following SOPs, wearing safety glasses, ear plugs, steel-toed shoes and full body safety harnesses.
  • Oftentimes working in a high magnetic field (Individuals with pacemakers, auto defibrillators or similar implanted devices are physically disqualified from this position.)
  • Working in building construction and clinical environments
  • Occasionally working in high radiation fields
  • Working in a high tempo stressful environment
  • Physical activities including standing, walking, sitting and lifting.
  • Working on scaffolding may be required
  • Candidate must be able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • May be required to work extended hours during the day or night
  • Shift work will be required depending on installation or patient schedules
  • Required to Travel 5 – 10% annually
