St. Edward's University, a nationally ranked, independent Catholic university and Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) invites applications for a full-time, 10-month, specialized faculty position as an Assistant Teaching Professor in the Department of Mathematics, beginning August 2024. At St. Edward's University, specialized faculty are not tenure-eligible but receive renewable contracts and have opportunities for promotion-in this case, to associate/full teaching professor. The successful candidate will foster student success in lower-division mathematics courses, including teaching and coordinating corequisite support courses for College Algebra, Mathematics for Business, and Statistics.

For consideration, candidates must have a Master's degree or Ph.D. in mathematics, mathematics education, or a related field with relevant experience. Candidates should have the interest and ability to teach a wide range of undergraduate and developmental mathematics courses and to support a diverse student body.

Essential Responsibilities Include:
  • Teaching the equivalent of four three-credit courses per semester according to departmental needs and course assignments. Preference will be given to applicants with experience teaching College Algebra, Precalculus, Mathematics for Business, Quantitative Reasoning, and developmental courses.
  • Coordinating corequisite (developmental) and lower-division mathematics courses for the department. This includes overseeing the implementation of the curriculum for multiple sections of each course and gathering student success data. May include assessment of student success data, mentorship of adjunct faculty, and curriculum development, as needed.
  • Managing and proctoring mathematics placement exams
  • Participating in other school and department service activities, where appropriate
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Opportunities to teach upper-division courses and/or supervise undergraduate research may be available, according to the candidate's expertise and interest.
