MSG is seeking a Community Planner / Landscape Architect with the desire to grow personally and professionally. The prime candidate is expected to possess in-depth knowledge of community planning in Michigan. In this role, you will put your problem solving, logic, and creativity to the test with a position that will provide an opportunity to be part of a multi-disciplinary and highly interactive team of landscape architects, engineers, and technicians, working with our municipal clients to provide dynamic design solutions on many types of projects. 

Key Responsibilities
  • Assists with the preparation of written technical reviews of development proposals including rezoning, site plans, special land use, and others.
  • Prepares and coordinates for the publication of public notices, public hearings, and other meetings.
  • Assists with the preparation of written technical reports, zoning regulations, presentation materials, and other as needed.
  • Understands Michigan laws and ordinances.
  • Assists in the development of local community Comprehensive Plans and Parks and Recreation Master Plans.
  • Compiles and analyzes data on current conditions and trends such as land use, population, and housing.
  • Recommends strategies, action plans, and funding sources to master plan implementation.
  • Attends a substantial number of evening meetings in the southeast Michigan region. 
  • Has experience in site design and plan preparation for projects involving municipal, commercial, and residential projects.


Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
  • 10+ years of community planning experience.
  • American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification.
  • Licensed Landscape Architect in Michigan or ability to quickly become licensed through CLARB.
  • Knowledge of methodology, principles, and practices of planning research and data collection.
  • Familiarity with municipal planning and zoning administration activities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite, ArcGIS, and AutoCAD.
