Job Summary:
The Geological Technician is primarily responsible for providing technical and administrative support to the exploration team. This position also assists with data gathering, organization, presentations and is responsible for the preparation of maps, cross sections, and managing data in geologists’ programs.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Performs routine and structured work assignments.
- Maintains integrity of data in geologists’ computer databases.
- Creates and maintains datasets as required by exploration team.
- Performs simple map/cross section building.
- Maintains company maps in geographic area of responsibility.
- Provides basic IT support to maintain plotters, workstations, etc.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Ability to work and communicate with the exploration team.
- Strong ability to complete tasks in a timely manner.
- Self-motivated, positive “can do” attitude, strong work ethic.
- Multitasking and time management with multiple assignments.
- Ability to problem solve.
- Close attention to detail.
- High aptitude and capable of quickly learning any skills lacked.
- Robust computer skills.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Some experience preferred but not required.
- Experience using relevant software preferred but not required. (Geographix, Excel, IHS, Enverus, GIS programs, etc.).
Physical Requirements:
Sedentary work. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Repetitive motion. Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers. The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.
