Job Description

SUMMARY OF POSITION AND RESPONSIBILITY:

The Safety Manager at Allied Stone is responsible for developing and implementing safety policies and procedures, they conduct risk assessments, investigate incidents, and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal safety standards. Safety managers lead training programs, communicate safety initiatives, and facilitate safety committee meetings to foster a culture of safety within the organization. They oversee emergency preparedness, manage safety equipment and PPE, and engage with stakeholders to promote a safe work environment. Continuous improvement through monitoring, evaluation, and documentation of safety activities is fundamental to their role, along with budget management for safety initiatives and resources. Overall, safety managers play a critical role in safeguarding employees and mitigating risks in the workplace.

  • Develop safety policies and procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION, CERTIFICATIONS AND/OR TRAINING):


Required Education:

  • A bachelor's degree in occupational health and safety, industrial hygiene, environmental science, or a related field is typically required for a safety manager position. Relevant majors may also include engineering, chemistry, or biology.


Preferred Education:

  • Advanced degrees such as a master's degree in occupational health and safety, industrial hygiene, or a related field can be preferred for higher-level safety management positions or for those seeking to specialize in a particular area of safety management.
  • Professional certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Occupational Health and Safety Technologist (OHST), or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) are often preferred and can enhance job prospects and credibility in the field.
  • Continuing education and professional development courses in safety management, regulatory compliance, risk assessment, and related topics are highly valued to stay updated with industry standards and best practices.

Required Experience:

  • Requires a minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience in occupational health and safety, preferably in an industrial or manufacturing setting.
  • Experience in developing and implementing safety programs, conducting risk assessments, and investigating incidents is essential.
  • Strong knowledge of safety regulations and standards, such as OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) regulations in the United States or similar regulatory frameworks in other countries, is necessary.
  • Experience in conducting safety training programs, managing safety committees, and interacting with regulatory agencies is often required.


Preferred Experience:

  • Experience in a leadership or supervisory role within a safety department, demonstrating the ability to effectively manage and lead safety initiatives.
  • Proven track record of implementing successful safety programs that have resulted in measurable improvements in safety performance and a reduction in incidents.
  • Experience in conducting safety audits and inspections, with a focus on identifying hazards, assessing risks, and implementing corrective actions.
  • Familiarity with industry-specific safety challenges and best practices, particularly in sectors such as construction, manufacturing, healthcare, or oil and gas.
  • Experience in managing contractor safety programs, including evaluating contractor safety performance and ensuring compliance with safety requirements.
  • Previous involvement in emergency response planning and crisis management, including the development and implementation of emergency procedures and protocols.
  • Experience in incident management and root cause analysis methodologies, with a focus on identifying underlying causes and implementing preventive measures to mitigate future incidents.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate safety-related information to employees at all levels of the organization, as well as to external stakeholders and regulatory agencies..

ESSENTIAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, ABILITY AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

Knowledge:

Knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations, standards, and best practices, such as OSHA regulations (or equivalent regulations in other regions).

Understanding of risk assessment methodologies, hazard identification techniques, and safety management systems.

Familiarity with emergency response planning, crisis management, and incident investigation procedures.

Knowledge of safety training principles and techniques, including adult learning methodologies.

Understanding of environmental health and safety principles, including industrial hygiene and ergonomics.

Skills:

Leadership and management skills to effectively lead safety initiatives and manage a safety team.

Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively communicate safety policies, procedures, and initiatives to employees at all levels of the organization.

Analytical and problem-solving skills to assess safety risks, investigate incidents, and develop appropriate corrective actions.

Interpersonal skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams, build relationships with stakeholders, and influence safety culture.

Organizational and time management skills to prioritize tasks, manage competing priorities, and meet deadlines.

Abilities:

Ability to adapt to changing regulatory requirements and industry standards, and to implement necessary changes to maintain compliance.

Ability to remain calm and effective in high-pressure situations, such as during emergencies or crisis situations.

Ability to train and educate employees on safety procedures and protocols effectively.

Ability to conduct safety audits, inspections, and assessments to identify hazards and risks.

Ability to lead by example and promote a positive safety culture within the organization.

Work Environment:
The work environment in the stone manufacturing industry may involve exposure to dust, noise, and various weather conditions. The employee may be required to wear personal protective equipment such as safety glasses and steel-toed boots.


Physical Demands:
• Ability to work with machinery and equipment for extended periods.

• Stamina to perform physically demanding tasks.

• Dexterity and precision for executing maintenance tasks

Travel Required:
Limited travel may be required for training or to pick up necessary parts or tools.
