We are seeking an experienced, successful, and engaged Environmental Compliance Senior Manager to join our team. This position is expected to work out of our office at 675 Los Esteros Rd. in San Jose and limited job-related travel may be required.


Position Summary:


GreenWaste is seeking to fill the position of Environmental Compliance Senior Manager to provide support to one or more facilities. The main role is to function with limited general direction to develop and implement all necessary programs to ensure compliance with all required environmental plans and permits. Will also be involved in, and coordinate, all aspects of environmental and regulatory compliance for the company’s various operating and trucking facilities including:

  • Training employees in environmental compliance issues and awareness, including stormwater, spill prevention and control, cleanup and reporting, etc.
  • Perform field inspections and the sampling/testing of water, soil, air, and all incoming/outgoing products using appropriate equipment and regulatory procedures
  • Provide laboratory coordination
  • Developing and implementing best management practices as needed to maintain compliance
  • Coordinating operational changes/modifications and implementation
  • Preparing and submitting required reports and follow up documentation
  • Provide required regulatory and public communications, both verbally and in writing, and perform all necessary follow up as required

Essential Functions and Responsibilities include, but Are Not Limited To:

  • Determining that required plans and permits are current with applicable regulations and in compliance with GreenWaste environmental policies and directives
  • Perform all required compliance and permitting activities, including the preparation of manifests, correspondence, reports, applications, regulatory questionnaires, scheduling and attending meetings, and researching and retaining appropriate contract service providers/consultants
  • Assure environmental compliance testing and inspection protocols and frequencies are consistent with regulatory compliance requirements
  • Ability to draft, generate and submit concise memos, letters, reports, and proposals
  • Ability to work productively in a team setting and with others including staff, supervisors, management, and executive team members
  • Conduct all environmental compliance inspections of facilities and operations and brings issues to operations and management as needed
  • Establish and maintain complete and up-to-date compliance management databases/binders
  • Work with operations personnel, engineering and permitting personnel, and site managers as necessary to determine and implement best management practices necessary for site changes, modifications, improvements, resolutions, etc.
  • Provide direct supervision and training to all staff engineers/technicians, assistants, and field personnel
  • Research, evaluate and develop ideas to help troubleshoot and accomplish goals
  • Assist with the development and presentation of environmental, permitting, and compliance related training


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Be familiar with applicable codes, regulations, and local, state, and federal environmental compliance requirements and processes
  • Able to organize and coordinate information and various services
  • Able to handle odors and dust associated with solid waste handling activities
  • Capable of working productively with staff, the current management team, and site technical consultants
  • Excellent people skills
  • Computer skills including MS Word, MS Excel
  • Ability to perform basic site ground, and drone aerial surveys and coordinate as necessary with professional surveyors when necessary
  • Possess strong writing and verbal communication skills

Qualifications:

A high school diploma (or G.E.D.) and a current valid drivers’ license are required, but a Bachelor of Science in environmental planning or engineering (preferably civil) from an accredited university is preferred. The following are also considered beneficial:

  • Six years qualifying work experience. Any combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities is considered qualifying
  • Any applicable technical certification(s) or advance training
  • Knowledge of technical and professional principles, practices, laws, applications and programs in environmental permitting and compliance related issues and regulations

Language Skill:

  • Proficiency in English and/or Spanish Proficient in English is required. Ability to communicate in Spanish is considered beneficial



Physical Demands:

  • Ability to physically push, pull and lift to 25-30 lbs.
  • Ability to sit or stand at a desk in an office environment for 6-10 hours a day
  • Travel up to 50% of the time throughout different facilities in California
  • Ability to be outside working for an extended period of time
  • Ability to get your hands dirty

Work Environment:

Typical work week is Monday through Friday. Work requires exposure to all outdoor weather conditions and must be able to tolerate odors and dust associated with all company operations.
