Senior Environmental Compliance Engineer / Scientist

Location: Altamonte Springs / Orlando, Florida

Employment Type: Full-Time

An established environmental consulting and engineering firm is seeking an experienced Environmental Compliance Engineer or Scientist to join its Orlando-area office. This senior-level role is ideal for a professional with extensive experience in environmental permitting, regulatory compliance, and consulting within industrial and commercial sectors.

The successful candidate will provide technical leadership, regulatory guidance, project management, and client support across a variety of environmental compliance and permitting initiatives. This position also offers opportunities to contribute to business development and strategic environmental planning efforts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and review environmental permit applications, compliance certifications, and emissions reports
  • Provide senior technical oversight and mentorship to engineering and environmental staff
  • Manage environmental compliance and permitting projects from initiation through completion
  • Develop and evaluate Remedial Action Plans related to petroleum underground storage tank (UST) cleanups
  • Support clients in maintaining compliance with federal and state environmental regulations
  • Coordinate with regulatory agencies regarding permitting, inspections, and compliance matters
  • Conduct site visits, investigations, and field data collection activities
  • Perform environmental calculations and technical analyses using accepted methodologies
  • Lead proposal preparation and support business development initiatives
  • Develop environmental guidance documents, compliance strategies, and regulatory recommendations

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related technical field
  • Current Florida Professional Engineer (P.E.) license preferred
  • 10–20 years of experience in environmental permitting, compliance, consulting, or related disciplines
  • Strong knowledge of EPA regulations and environmental compliance frameworks
  • Familiarity with Florida environmental regulations required
  • Experience with regulations in Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, and/or Louisiana is a plus
  • Air compliance and permitting expertise strongly preferred
  • Familiarity with Florida PRP UST programs is a plus
  • Excellent project management, technical writing, and client communication skills
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications, including Excel
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced consulting environment
