Job description

THE POSITION The Environmental Engineer Manager with the Department of Environmental Protection plays a key leadership role in protecting our waterways and communities. This position guides important engineering reviews that help keep Pennsylvania's water clean and safe. It offers the chance to support environmental progress while developing strong management skills.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK This role oversees the work of the Permits Section to ensure that engineering reviews, permit decisions, and program requirements are completed accurately and on time. The position supports environmental protection by guiding staff, reviewing technical documents, and making key decisions related to water quality permits.

As a Environmental Engineer Manager, you will perform the following duties: Section Leadership: Guide the daily operations of the Permits Section and ensure that staff complete accurate and timely work Permit Oversight: Review engineering documents and permit applications related to water quality and wastewater systems Technical Evaluation: Assess environmental impacts, effluent limits, and compliance with state and federal regulations Public Interaction: Respond to questions from applicants, consultants, citizens, and partner agencies Program Compliance: Monitor adherence to the Permit Decision Guarantee Program and maintain consistent review practices Data Management: Use electronic tracking tools to ensure accurate documentation of permit actions Interested in learning more. Work Schedule and Additional Information: Full-time employment Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.

This position has Flexible Headquarter Locations: Northeast Regional Office: 2 Public Square, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18701-1915 Scranton District Office: 321 Biden Street, Suite 300, Scranton, PA 18503 Pocono (Stroudsburg) District Office: 2174B, Route 611, Swiftwater, PA 18370-7746 Pottsville District Mining Office: 5 West Laurel Blvd, Pottsville, PA 17901 Bethlehem District Office: 4530 Bath Pike, Bethlehem, PA 18017 Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, three days per week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office.

The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview. Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: Two years as an Environmental Engineer or an Air Quality Engineer; or Five years of professional engineering experience in environmental protection or in environmental project development, design or construction.

Special Requirement: This position requires possession of a valid Professional Engineer license issued by the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists or a valid Professional Engineer license issued by the applicable licensing body of another state. Conditions of Employment: This position requires possession of a valid Pennsylvania Class C driver's license or equivalent. Post Employment Requirement: Successful candidates with an out-of-state Professional Engineer license will be required to produce a valid Professional Engineer license issued by Pennsylvania within their initial six month probationary period.

Other Requirements: You must possess and maintain a REAL ID or passport for this position. Proof of possession will be needed at the time of a conditional offer of employment. PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
